Are you losing 50hp at the motor or at the wheels? :?

Can smell rich but as its an S2 how can i adjust it ?

Alan says 50bhp loss at the motor.

faulty/fouled oxygen sensor?

http://www.lotuselancentral.com/repair/oxysens.htm

Sensors should be tested at every tune up, and prior to smog checks. In California, 70% of the vehicle smog check failures are a result of poorly operating or failed Oxygen Sensors!!!

There's a tool which is just a strong magnet on a universal joint, attached to a rod. Invest now or loose your tools later! Working in these tight spaces, you're going to loose everything. . .tools, money, mind. . .;)

Ok checked and adjusted TPS today still nothing.

I've trawled through LEC and a couple of things have hit me, can someone tell me the following

Map sensor readings, what is the range of this on elanscan ? from posts i've read it should be approx the same as boost BAR levels ? if so mines way high at almost 2BAR.

Wastegate Duty Cycle, on a previous post quite a while ago Alan mentioned this was highish, now with the Everest it is even higher reading nearly 80%, isn't this way too high ?

If anyone has a good everest scan they could send me i'd appreciate it.

Thanks

The MAP sensor reads absolute pressure - in other words the pressure read is realtive to vacuum. The boost reading, on the other hand, is relative to atmospheric pressure - approximately 1 bar. So to a first approximation

MAP = boost + 1

The Elan ECU records the atmsopheric pressure by reading the MAP at ignition on, before startup, this is recorded as the barometric pressure. ElanScan reports boost but its not a direct sensor reading its simply calculated by subtracting the baro pressure from the MAP reading and discarding negative results.

The wastegate duty maxes out at 80%. High duty cycles occur when the turbo efficiency/back pressure and the low passive wastegate opening pressure are making it difficult to achieve the target boost. Since 0.9bar is more than twice the boost wastegate was designed to open at, the fact that 80% is reached isn't really surprising and it certainly isn't unusual. You'll see plenty of 80% in the logs I sent you.

Its an essential purchase, I've got something like a magnet on a telescopic radio-arial-like thing. It can still take a while to find things even with that though.

Got the car in bits and done a quick test of the MAT sensor.

It's out the car and i tried it in differant temps of water and then read the ohms, at 70c its 480 which is about right on the chart in the engine manual but at 14c it says 1460 and 23c 1230 which is way low

Think it's finally sorted, although my hair has changed colour and dropped out in the process !

I'd like to say its XXXXXX but i cant, i've changed plugs, cts, mat i've checked and adjusted timing, tps, throttle and all hoses and then one day it just started working better. I think its been a combination of things all fighting but if i had too say what was most likely i think the timing and loose hoses, although they never felt loose it seemed when i took them off and refitted them this was the final piece of the jigsaw. Thanks to everyone who helped me and gave me pointers and especially Alan for his time and patience and Candles for lending me his spare MAT to try.

time to get the magnetic pick-up tool then

funny thing, I just needed and used mine again to retrieve a socket I knocked off the Evo rocker cover that fell down and onto the plastic front undertray

would have had to drive up a steep hill and pop the clutch, put car up on ramps and remove undertray to get the socket, or use the magnetic pick-up probing wildly over the tray area in the blind

I picked the last option and got it in about one minute flat

A mate picked me one up last weekend for £2, not only invaluable as a tool but great fun playing table fishing when bored too lol
