280BHP

Postby Dean » Mon 25.07.2005, 22:32

Hi i am new to this web site. I own a Elan SE and have had this for almost 2YRS. I am happy with the car but would like more power. t the moment i have a PM exhaust system and what i think is a BBR chip (not 100%). Would like too know if this car can get up to 280-300BHP and how much this would cost?

You should look in the 'Projects' section, there are several members cars around the BHP numbers you've mentioned...

Deann,
See also Philbo's excellent synopsis in http://www.informatica.zen.co.uk/elan/Stages.htm

Be aware that it was written a year or so ago, and so some of what he says has been superseded (eg as a result of ElanScanMan's chips), but it's an excellent starting point.

I have had a look at Philbo's page and it is most usefull. Does any one know we're i could get a fully mapped ECU and how much it would cost? Or is this something i would need to find myself?

Dean I have a Haltech (as per the write up) for sale (bought second hand never fitted it to my car).
You can have it for what I paid for it minus my postage costs (I bought it from the States) - £500.

When I bought it Philbo asked for first refusal if i didn't need it...I'd have to check with him first though...let me know.

Dean

I haven't read the write-up in ages, but what I meant was that the Haltech is mentioned (I thought) in the write-up you've read.
It comes with instructions and Philbo can let you have more in depth ones too.

Ashaman can get you loads of info on the Haltech, but another place to check to read some background on the install is at:

http://www.isuzone.org/forums/

A number of folks there are using them. Before getting too focused on a remapped ECU, however, do some reading around the site and see the options out there. 280-300 HP (are you talking at the wheels or crank?) can be getting into a fair amount of $ (say, $3,000-4,000 if you want 280 WHP). You can bump quite a bit over stock for a lot less by a simple, inexpensive chip.

Of course then project creep will take over and you'll want to monkey with everything...

I am looking too get 280-300BHP at the crank.

Thank's for the link Dave M will look over it at the weekend.

Ashaman, is the Haltech a full ECU or a chip?
Also can it be re-mapped at any time?

just my 2 cents

3-4000$ as mentioned above is an optimistic amount. I would say a lot more than that if you want the car with 280hp+ to behave with the same manuvrability and handling as with 167hp. Unless you want a car that only goes on straight line of course but thats NOT what Lotus has been designed for.

Brakes, Exchaust, Suspension, Fuel injectors etc should be changed as well..... combined with engine mods, those things cost A LOT more than 4000$.
