Yes, I figured the driving styles over there might be much more aggressive than we are used to :)

Costas, I understand what you are saying. There is a difference though between you & a 911 going at it in the middle of the night on an empty street and almost taking some poor guy out who is minding his own business because you wanted your video.

I have no problem with you driving aggressively or wringing out your car, it is a blast! Sure, I have done risky things; but the risk is _MY OWN_. I don't place the risk upon others, that is the point I was trying to make. I would just encourage you to be considerate of the safety of others, so keep it away from them.

Have fun, but be safe :)

I remember sometime ago in your postings talk about your rear light cluster, is it something that you have a pattern for or can get made up or is it a one off never to be repeated.

Grahame the rear panel was made on the car, so there is no mould to copy it. Off course the fact that there is one made allready now (mine) that can easily be detached since its screwed and not glued on the car, can make a copy of it easier.

Have to mention that finally I didnt install a rear plate light...

Mario, picking a fight with Costas is not the best way to ingratiate yourself to the LEC body public. You could be right about your view or you could be wrong. I can't say as it is your country, not mine. I don't know what constitutes "acceptable/normal" driving in Greece and therefore don't want to enforce my knowledge of what is considered OK in the USA into the discussion. That said, I am left with only my knowledge of & respect for Costas, the human being. He many times has said: I will do "X", and he has in each case done "X". He seems to be a man to respect. Outside of facts, my devotion to my friends is inexhaustible. When I was married I always supported my wife in public, even when I knew she was wrong. It was later and in private, we drew our conclusions from the day.

p.s., Sorry Doc, I thought about this & wrote it offline B4 you made your post.

Steven, Thx a million will check it out!

M6TT what a better place to get married than Santorini? Great choise!
PS. When you go from the town of Fira to Ia and see the road-like, imagine it driven with an Elan.

Nitro, honestly it goes vice-versa buddy

Now its seems that the fuelling problem is solved since nothing wierd happened after we cleared the fuel filter. As a result I can say that our car fuel management can handle power up to 400hp but with 500cc injectors, the stock fuel pump can handle it. Dave was correct after all, oncemore.

do u mind if i ask a little more about the re-mapping of the engine then?
u still using the same ecu? but re-mapped? or may i know what you have used to cater for the new boost levels and fueling?
i am intending to switch out my ecu (local shop willing - being the first Elan they would touch) before any turbo upgrades etc.

thanks!

First thing that crosses my mind when I read your post is one of the "mountain" chips that this forum through Elanscanmat (?) provides and from what I ve read are quite in a descent price.

I am using the stock ECU but remapped. My turbo pressure, once the turbo is active is steady throughout all available RPM, something that is easily noticed on the following old Dyno. The boost pressure is the blue line and you can easily notice that it picks and keeps that pressure all the way...

Other than that I can tell you that a Chip like mine will cost at DSP Lotus 500Euros while a mountain Chip will cost less less less than that and will do a guaranteed job and in everyway you prefer. Go for the mountain chip!

About fueling now, I installed 500cc fuel injectors by TOMCO, a Fuel pressure adjustment (at 3.4bar now). I also changed the fuel pump, just in case but with a stock one. I needed more fuelling not only because of increase in hp (actually the hp are more than doubled from stock numbers) but also for the use of NOS which increase them even more.

As long as Sh4rk was tuned at 200-220 or even 237 hp, the stock fuel injectors were doing their job without any problems ever occured. Only thing that I did at that Hp stage was to increase the Fuel Pressure to 3.0bar.

Hope I helped...

Costas

PS. As a friendly note i have to mention once more, do not experiment with new chips, go for those that are allready been used and proved ok by other Elaners.

Ok, I think that that little trip from 3500-4000 RPM must some kick in the pants :)

I must confess however that I still don't understand how AFR is staying optimal...you mentioned that you raised fuel pressure, does that mean you have an adjustable or rising rate regulator installed?

You also referred to a chip and said the stock ECU was re-mapped...did you have someone actually burn a custom EEPROM??

This the Fuel pressure regulator (I hope the term is correct). From what i know, it is adjusted to a specific pressure and thats it.
Its the piece of equipment at the front of the picture.

As far as for the ECU goes let me ask Greg first and post technically correct about it this time, its the poor technical vocabulary that makes me struggle sometimes to describe things out... :(

Wow...does the car feel like it is lagging at all? Looks like the power arrives in the 4000+ range. That's quite a rise in boost all at once. My car was similar with the IHI/T3, but I had full boost by 3200-3400. That's why there's bouts of wheelspin in your video, eh?

2 things have to be mentioned

1. When on Dyno, what they do is, first gear up to 3000rpm then 2nd gear and again up to 3000rpm, 3rd same and when the switch on 4th gear the RPM are dropped to about 2000rpm and then they step on the pedal. Of course there is lag like that but there is NO absolutely way I am gonna do this on the street, is there any chance any of you that is gonna switch to 4th and go full acceleration from 2000rpm?. When on a race track or a Streetrace I never go below 3500rpm, actually I never go below 4000rpm, so the lag effect is eliminated.

2. On Streetracing you never drop bellow 4500rpm, so that unbelievable kick is always there all the time, it actually seems like a continous Turbo acceleration. On top of that with the use of NOS when needed, the NOS enters from 3000RPM so Voila!!! no lag at all (tested many times) even if you miss a switch in gears.

The lag is there, no doubt, but only if you are lazy. After all even bigger competiton turbo engines like the Mitsubishi Evo or the Subaru impreza have lag.... ;)

No matter what the feeling of that kick at 4000 erazes all lag thoughts immediately! :)

Actually, in stock form I believe the EVO and the WRX are known for their lack of lag. But the larger the turbo you add, generally the greater lag you get. There definitely can be a trade-off between ultimate top-end power and responsiveness. My prior setup was a good blend of the two, though I still found myself wanted a bit quicker spool up on one track in particular.

With your nitrous, you've got the a great anti-lag mechanism, however.
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Yep, looks like an adjustable regulator to me! I actually purchased one and thought about going this route, but decided against it, that is why I was curious. Looks like it does work out just fine though, do you have a dyno chart with the AFR plotted by chance? It would be really interesting to see if you do...

Lack of lag is fun too...I drove Jack's low mileage Elan with the stock turbo and was shocked at the explosive/instant boost it provided! But as Dave said, it is unfortunately a trade off. Still, I would love to have a ball-bearing version to see the difference it made, I have heard it can improve spoolup ~500 RPM sooner, that is a LOT!
