autoglass monkey fcukers.

title says it all realy.

julie took missy to autoglass months ago with a chip in the screen. it was about 10mm and bang in the middle of the field of vision. i thought they would replace it but no they repaired it which jules accepted and signed for before i had a chance to see it. not a happy man. anyhow with baby ben turning up its been on the back burner till now. her mot is due and i had a word with my mechanic who said because of its size and position it would be a fail. so i phoned my insurance company (liverpool victoria) who gave me the green light to to get it changed by there named fitter autoglass.

yesterday they fitted the screen and and i picked up the car in the pissing rain without having a chance to look at the work. today i went out to look at it and found a right mess. they had refitted the old trims and corner caps after butchering them to get the old glass out. i have a 10mm gap between the header and the hood at one corner and hacked up bits of trim hanging off the a-posts.

so i took it back this morning and after a 45min wait to see the fitter he told me "a yes, i wasn't happy with this job myself". it gets better "problem is the trims are no longer available".

so what, tough s**t, deal with it? i think not.

i went home and phoned mattys and sj and both of them have them in stock so i passed the details on to autoglass and im waiting to here back from them.

Go get 'em Stevie boy.

I have evidence that seals and trim were replaced with the windscreen under insurance mate.

You're welcome to copies of the paperwork if it comes to it.

Lotus recommend it too. It says as much in one of the manuals.

Stevo, I had my screen done recently and having been alerted to the need for A post seals etc. I insisted they get them before letting them near the car. My insurers agreed it all in advance. Its just a shame you are having to work back from a cock-up. Hope you get it sorted.
There was a thread on this which had all the info.

yes, windscreen is something almost guaranteed to be fcuked up in replacement unless you do your homework , get all the parts present, and take it to a competant place.

Let me echo what I told Nitro (as if he didn't know) after his recent fiasco--it is meant to be a learning thing for all elan owners = Don't EVER sign off on work for your car until it is completely inspected!! This means even planning on the right time of day to view it and right weather conditions--there is NO EXCUSE for not doing it right from YOUR end TOO!!

and yes I agree with Sy, get his info and evidence and start compiling a folder; get the chief insurance person with their name and employee number to handle your situation, etc. . .

I'm SO unhappy to post this, but I highly recommend you get a solicitor to make a phone call or two.
A police friend of mine was swiped by another driver. The insurance would only pay for a used part that required three patches of bondo. My friend called me up asking for advice. I told him to threaten to turn this over to your attorney-friend. The same hour, they responded that they would find a fender in superior condition.
Then, they refused to replace his bumper. The bumper had been previously repaired, but this accident made the bumper unrepairable - bumper can be repaired only so many times before they aren't repairable. Their rationale was that because the bumper had been previously repaired, this second collision is not the cause of the bumper being beyond repair. So, they weren't going to replace it. My friend called me. I whipped up an email which I also used as my speaking notes. I called the adjuster's supervisor. We talked for about ten minutes. I explained in no uncertain terms that if this wasn't resolved, we would file suit. I also explained it wasn't personal either way, we're just both doing what we have to do. After hanging up, I immediately sent the email.
Gee, imagine that later in the afternoon, they settled to my friend's satisfaction.
I hate lawyers. I am one. I hate that people can't figure out how to get along without the threat of a dickhead like me arriving with the heavy artillery. But alas, society isn't as civilized as we might think. Until we become more civilized, there'll always be a job for me. :(
Stevo, go find a solicitor friend and have him gently suggest the consequences of not working with you. If they don't play ball, I highly recommend tactical nukes. Don't worry about any collateral damage, God knows his own.
PM me if I can be of assistence.
Cheers!

so.........
liverpool vic want nout to do with it (wont be using them again) so i went down to autoglass to see if they would take responsablity(sp?) for the damage. after showing the manager the trims she had to admit it was there f**k up and that they would repace them and refit the screen.

i thought it was par for the course for the windscreen company to fit new wiper blades with a new screen (they always have in the past) but auto glass say its extra!

so i said seeing as i have had the run around can you fit a set foc?

no they said. :wtf:

how do i contact your complants department?

ok we will fit one blade and you pay for the other! :banghead:

this just gets better and better.

Stevo,

I had the exact same problem with RAC Autowindscreens (in Maryhill).

They weren't any better. Refitted old trim. Trim was unavailable they say, trim not covered by insurance they say. Had a 12" crack and needed the car on the rd. asap!

Oh, and eversince my waterproof elan has sprung a leak :x
Hence my tatty windscreen surrounds.

The other option

Postby Andrew_Ennis » Wed 03.08.2005, 11:22

Stevo,
I had a broken passenger window in my green elan, took it too autoglass, ususal response, yeh no problem mate done lots of them before!!!! Ok i ask how do you remove the glass?.......erm no idea. Discussed the job with the supervisor going through the manual. He agreed it was beyond thier capability to do a window replacement on a lotus!!!!! So they gave me all the parts, glass, adhesives, new slider blocks etc. and i did it my self in about 5 hours. The problem is working on our cars is no built like a mass produced car and needs care and attention to detail to do a good job. Autoglass just do not have the time to do it properly.

My 2p worth, get Autoglass to get you all the parts, wait for a nice sunny day, buy a few beers, and do it yourself.

Hmmm. I have 2 stone chips in vision, one is splitting.

I intend to get the windscreen done later this year and will ensure the seals are mentioned and agreed as essential pasrt of the job.

What about different tints though?

And will it be an insurance job just with the chips or does it need to split first?

Good luck Stevo. Tape the fekkers ear to Missy's zaust and rev the tits off her

Stevo,

I had to send off copies from the manual and photos of my seals to my insurance company where it says that the seals should be replaced. Eventually they agreed to pay for them but I fitted them myself as I didn't trust Autoglass with something so delicate. Autoglass did obtain the glass side cover strips but reused the corners - this was because I sent them a list of required parts from the manual before they ordered anything.
What make of glass have you ended up with, I rejected 2 screens due to evidence of delamination.

Best of luck

I believe he has a full trim set available.

Make sure the bstds pay for them though.

Just a smal thing here - its really for future use and wont help you much stevo - I had a golf gti that kept busting screens, when I spoke to the Autoglass fitter after the 3rd screen in a 6 week period, I was told they do actually fit screens that are a bit thinner than the original screens in the centres but were of same spec at the edges. He told me to insist with my insurers I used VW for the repair and fitted OEM parts, which I did. No quibble from insurance and no repetition of screen cracking.

May be worth all of us bearing this in mind for the future.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.
