Stoneleigh '05 - The LEC Stall

Very, very foolishly I have stuck my head above the parapet and offered to get involved in the Stoneleigh LEC stand, at this point Sy sniped me so I guess I'm doing it!

However I can't do this alone and need help from you out there, please.

My thoughts are that the stand should be similar to that at Donington (don't change a good idea). Ideally I'd like to get 3 cars as a backdrop if space permits an NA, an SE and an S2, volunteers who want to have their car on the stand please let me know.

On the stand a display of projects and products from carbon bits to brakes via clothing and stickers.

I would also like to get at least a laptop showing moving pictures of Elans in action, a widescreen TV would be better. Anyone with Video footage of Elans in action please contact me, also anyone who has the means to convert video into DVD would be really useful.

Finally, for the moment, I don't intend to spend the weekend behind the stand so volunteers to babysit the stand for an hour or two at various stages of the day are eagerly sought.

I'm not intending to organise acommodation, RV or the run into Stoneleigh, another volunteer(s) for that please.

Well I've posted my accommodation plans and there's a fair size car park out the front so, it looks like we'll have an en mass run-in of about 6 miles!

Ah rule number 1, the problems of short term memory loss return to haunt me. Basically the whinging posted elsewhere about the M100 cavalcade at Donington this year (see the Donington 2006 thread) prompted me to take a stuff em all attitude, in other words beligerence overode common sense!

I'll offer assistance as much as I can.

Need to also sort the Guinness Book of Records attempt and hope to use both Stoneleigh and Donington as a promotional tool.

Depending on what's going on I may stay in the area otherwise I'll commute as it isn't too far. If I'm staying I may offer Blipi to the stand but would rather give other Elans first shot.

Thanks for your prompt offers of help at the very least an hour covering the stand would be great and I'll come up with a plan which will no doubt have a few other jobs for the willing. Offers of cars are also welcome and I'll keep a record and work out what we can actually do when I've spoken with the organisers (and Sy) about the space available for us etc. Should see most if not all of you at either the East Mids meet on 6 Sep or at the next Southern meet. I don't have a monopoly on good ideas so shout if you have any yourselves.

Nige, am i correct in thinking there will be 50 elans in the hall anyway, as its the year of the cat, so will you still want some elans on the stall ?

Possibly not, but it was an initial thought, I'll give CL a call next week and see what they mean by 'featured car' this will doubtless influence what we do on the stand. I thought the stand at Donington was excellent but we don't have to do the same, it is after all a different event. I'd be keen to try and focus on Elans in use, both as regular road cars and for a bit of fun on the track.

I should be coming along, and can offer my IT Services as such.

I can bring my laptop with elanscan, if people want to use it to demo logs etc, thats no problem. So long as we have power, and the laptop is locked to the desk at all times. I plan on staying the weekend for this one

Will we be allowed to sell clothing/products from the stall?

That would be great Tony, thanks. I'm sure we'll need power for other things as well (need to be able to get a brew on). It would be particularly good if we can have the forum up and running at the show so people can post whilst there, or evena web cam or somthing. I have no real in depth IT knowledge, just ideas which I'm happy to have dismissed if impractical. I have done a fair bit of event organisation in the past though.

I don't know for sure about selling but would have thought it likely, particularly if we have to pay a fee for the stand, all stuff to be put to CL next week.

We wouldnt be able to have the forum without any internet access, however it's possible to have the rest of the site stored on my laptop for browsing (such as the upgrades/repairs etc.)

Tony, the need for internet access to have the forum is understood, access to a phone line being essential (unless I can get my hands on a nice wireless machine). If we can't manage the forum then having the rest of the site available would be great.

As the M100 is the featured car I'm thinking that the site and the 'community' should be the theme of the stand.

Spoken with Club Lotus and I'll get a call back in due course from Sam who is organising the event. On the assumption that we will have up to 50 M100s in the hall having specific cars on the stand is probably not necessary. I've put a provisional marker down for 3 tables power and a phone point (in the hope that we can get internet access) I have stressed that we are not a trading stand in the hope that I can avoid a pitch fee.

I hope to attend the East Mids meet next week and also the next Southern meet so I'll see what the general view of what we want on the stand is. If anyone has ideas then let me know otherwise I'll press on with my own thoughts. Developing the site and community theme in my previous post the one area where we are all experts to a degree is 'Elan Ownership' what we do with and what we do to our cars, so that might be worth developing. I'm in scrounging mode at the moment at work and elsewhere and will see if I can get some of those fancy display stands and other bits and pieces.

I have got hold of a display stand. It is about 6'- 7' tall and about 4' wide. It has a light box at the top. It was got with LEC in mind and is all yours. Just have to sort out transport for it.

All we'd have to make sure of is that any existing branding is removed, covered, painted out etc.

Yes please. I know you're up North and I'm down South so I'll have a think about how we might arrange transport. I'm sure we can sort out any branding that needs obscuring. I'd like to have at least one part of the display focused on what we do with our cars, I have photos from the Castle combe track day (some of mine, majority courtesy of Sy) Le Mans and a few others, as you seem to be the appointed photographer for some events are you able to provide some photos as well? My plan is to get a selection mounted on foam board and attach them to a display board. I can accept them digitally and get them printed (e mail address in profile).

No problems. I have photos from Donington 05 and the recent Scotland camping trip. I'll put them onto CD and send them. PM me your details.

I'm sure that if you want any help with the stand, organising anything, manpower etc then please let me know and I'll be more than happy to get involved.

I also have access to an LCD projector for video/DVD if thats any use.....
