Boot lock fallen out

The boot lock barrel has fallen out of my S2. My dealer tells me the only option is a complete new set of locks from Lotus which is very expensive.

I assume it's an easy enough job to replace the lock but I need to know where to get the parts, and what I am likely to need to find - presumably I need a barrel (with a key) and a clip to hold it in, is there anything else I need? (The lock fell out on the motorway so I have no idea what fell out with it).

I've looked through the posts on this forum and it appears the door lock comes out of a Pontiac - is this the same for the boot lock?

Given that I am in the UK are there any more common UK cars which use the same lock? E.g. could I find it at a Vauxhall or Saab dealership?

PS I have tried sjsportscars but they only seem to stock the lock set for Series 1 cars.

S2s have the same key for all the locks (as you know) - ignition, doors, boot and glove box. Whereas SEs have seperate keys for everything (doors and boot the same, but seperate glove box key and another seperate ignition key), so you end up looking like a jailer !!

Guess you could get an SE boot lock, you'd only need one extra key then. Unless you can find somewhere that will make you up a lock barrel for your existing key ?

I'm not bothered about having a separate key for the boot. When I bought the car in 2001 it came with 3 extra keys which don't do anything, so I assume it's had a few lock replacements over the years (The glovebox lock fell apart a few times so I've had it replaced with a non-locking catch rather than getting yet another key).

I'll look into the Series 1 kit although it seems a bit wasteful to buy a full set when I only need 1 lock.

try douglas valley breakers then.. they may have one lock with one key?
if not there is somone on ebay breaking an elan .. give them a shout...
and maybe sy has still got some remaining parts from the car he broke a while ago...

I had to get a set of duplicate keys cut for mine not long ago, and the guys at Duplicut ((0121) 3541449) recognised the key and said its from a jeep lock. you might have more fun tracking one of those down?

My lock fell out one day as I was unlocking what you guys call the "boot." I just put mine back together. It was kind of tricky, but saved some $. Let me know if this helps.

Your are totally right Chris...top of the class, but expect help from a Vauxhall dealer........I would expect to see John Stonehouse first.

Thanks all for your help - I found a very helpful Vauxhall dealer (Drive, Bury St Edmunds) and the lock barrel is indeed the same as the Mark II Astra Hatchback.

(So are some of the rest of the lock parts, but the black plastic catch which actually opens the boot is a Lotus-only part)

For anyone else who needs it (Elan S2, don't know about the SE), the part number is 90167273. The return spring is 3466853 (that had also fallen out).

Total came to just over £27 for the lock, 2 keys and return spring. The guy put it all together for me too, I just had to slot it into place.

You dit well. I l had to drill my boot lock out after i shut the keys in the boot and i got charged £75 for the boot lock and ONE key.
