lucky bugger!!!

Postby theelanman » Mon 17.10.2005, 21:57

well its on and done!!!....and who's the luckiest &@$*<!! of them all....today I think its me
got to TTL at 10am this morning dropped the car off...guess what....they hadnt got a recon frame done in black only in blue as it had been pre ordered and they had no other 'old' frames in so I got a brand new hood and frame for £740 incl vat and fitting a saving of ££££££'s
what a joy to see everything so clearly out of the rear window again!!!
the finish is great the material is as the original the fit of the header rail is bob on the fit of the seals to the driver door is perfect..the passanger door not so as I found out when flying home....the window whistled....just needs some minor adjustment with a lever just to try to bend it out a little (its about 1in below the top rear corner of the window) but an excellent job...took em 3.5 hours.....walked about the loal for 2 .5 hrs and then just waited in reception for an hour....
not sure anyone else will get the free frame as they will have a couple of spares with the one I left them and the blue one that being fitted this week too!!!
definate humbs up for those thinking of it!!!!
cheers

Im booked in for early december,

Craig at TT was explaining I can either have their "stock" frame or ask for mine to be reused...I will have to decide which is preferable when I get there. I dont really want to hang around for 3 days whilst they retrim mine but dont know what to look for .does anyone have any suggestions for what I should look for ?
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.

timmo
you shouldnt need to wait for 3 days.....
the plan is that TT have a couple of original frames in stock and will swap your frame for the other 'used' frame.....
the other option is a brand new frame.....
what happend with me was that when I arrived they only had the 1 used frame and it was trimed in blue for someone who'd ordered before me so I got a new frame for the same price.....!!!
what they should now have is my old frame and the person who had the blue tops frame......so there are 2 used frames in the system.....you will probably get one if these having been retrimmed and the frame refurbished...thats if you go for refurbished at £740
otherwise you can spend the extra and go for the new frame too!!!
does that make sense?......basically you turn up wait 4 hours and then drive home with a new hood........
they are booking these new hood fittings in that way so that there's no 3 day wait......kind of fitting a couple of frames a week max so you change your frame mon/tues then by the following mon/tues those frames will have been refurb'd and ready for fitting
good service anyway......
cheers

also the guy that oversees the fitting and stuff (develpoment manager) is called Pete...cant remember his surname but he has a direct email on their website if you have any tech issues!!!

Gareth

Sorry for not explaining myself properly.

Craig at TT said the process works like this.

1. Turn up and havve process explained to me.

2. Have a look at their frame (which is already prepped with the new roof I am buying)

3. Decide if I want their one or if I want to keep my old frame.

Now heres the thing, if I keep mine - time to reprep and fit is about 3 days. If I go with theirs, it'll be done in 3-4 hours.

Trouble is I wouldnt know a good frame from a bad one and thats where I am looking for advice.

timmo
thats not true....he's been feeding you a line....
they have 2 options ready...one on a brand new frame and one on a used frame which has been reconditioned........
you turn up they take your hood off and either put you a used frame reconditioned or a brand new frame but it all depends on how much you want to spend...however they have both options ready to fit same day!!!
I'd speak to dean holt.....hes the guy thats sorted all this and I think he's not far off MD (or at least that was the impression I got when I had my hood fitted!!)
if you want a chat I'll give you my mobile number if you send me a PM...
cheers

Thanks for explaining that Monty. Yep you are right I am talking about either.

1. Keeping my frame - and using their hood & seals - they say this takes three days to do

OR

2. I can use their frame - but will have to give them mine - that can be done sameday.

Trouble is I wouldnt know if my frame was better than their one or vice versa and so I want a pointer as to what to look for.

sorry...wrong end of the stick.....
get what you mean now.......as for their recon frames these are basically blasted and painted and any rusty bits replaced with new bits....
they have told me that as standard they were intending to replace the bit of the locking mechanism that usually rips through the hood just behind your head with a mod'd smoother rounder part that they are using on the new frames!
the recon frames should be in good knick I suppose you could inspect them first and then decide
cheers

ps sorry again for the mix up....I'm a bit slow like that sometimes!!!!

So....is there a viable option for US owners then? Or not...?

I can't very well drop off the car, and shipping would be downright frightening I imagine!

Asha

trim Tech will seel the ragtop alone (or with seals) but without frame and elastics.
Speak to Dean Holt (Sales Manager).

Just picked up my Elan from Trim Technology today after the fitting of the reconditioned hood. LEC discount still applies and they do a fantastic job.

They now request that you ideally leave the car with them for a week to allow for proper fitting / adjustment. I could only leave mine for 3. Dropped it off Tuesday morning, caught the train back to Swindon; Train back to Bedworth (Coventry) this morning and picked it up to drive home.

Obviously the first thing I did was take the hood down for the drive home. Can't be having the hood up with weather like that.

Peter Randle was working on the car and is obviously not a fan of the way Lotus designed / manufactured the Elan. Apparently they are a bitch to get the hoods to fit properly as the cars are all individually out of alignment in different ways.

Anyway, if you are considering a new top I would highly recommend them. Great service and all new seals to keep those Summer showers out.

See copy of E-mail. They need your car for a WEEK for fitting? :!: :!:
The E-bay price shows the cost at over £1,000 for ELANMAN PICTURE
IS THIS RIGHT?
