I just got off the phone with Robbie, he has informed me that the 1.8L cams do not have the same lift or duration as the Elan, the Elan cams have the greatest lift height and the longest duration. The Elan cams are the best and should NOT be swapped out with the 1.8L
For what it is worth

hi all, im trying to put missy back together now and im worried about the cam belt. i had it done last year so its in good nick but i dont want to put it on wrong and f**k the engine.
1. how do i get the 3rd engine mount bolt off(you know the one i mean)
2. do i take the alloy plate with the allen bolts off.
3. do i set the crankshaft pulley to 0 degrees and the cam pulleys to the timming marks face each other then slip the belt on?
4. am i in over my head?

I think you will like the first line of the write-up:
"Hi there. So your brave enough to attempt to change your Elan M100 cambelt. Its quite a frustrating job..."

Hi all, 10 years ago I had a go at nodding my cylinder head and I was surprised with the power gain. I bought a book on the subject back then but today I've came across this YouTube video that exactly describes the work I done. He's working on a turbo 1600cc 16v head off of a hyundi so it's a similar set up to ours. The guy drones on a bit but it's a very instructional video if you are thinking of giving it a go.

Youtube link didn't work for me - think the '.' between u & b shouldn't be there... this works
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iejDWSQEsqIInteresting video ... but don't agree with his terminology at 1:53 "ignites .. before TDC will melt parts and destroy rotating assembly" - all ignition timing is BTDC, it's how far before TDC that ignition takes place that's important.
Surprised to see him do all that work with guides still in place, I've only ever done that sort of work on ports on a bare casting with guides removed - and then modified the guides before refitting them.

Leave me alone, I think I know what I'm doing.
