Side view mirror bits

Postby Kjeld » Fri 11.11.2005, 04:18

The (US) drivers side mirror has been broken since I bought the car. The plastic bracketing on the mirror plate itself, that holds the horizontal and vertical pivot was broken. Lotus Girl Marie was able to melt some new plastic into place to support the pivot, but that has failed now too. Any ideas on where I can get the mirror plate alone? Lotus will sell the entire mirror assembly for >$200, without paint.

I think it was SW Lotus, but other places have them as well (?Paul Matty?). They had mirrors for both sides, and they were the convex glass ones (attached to the black plastic backing/frame) with the pointless wording etched into them "objects in the mirror may be nearer than they appear" (or something). Having seen Jurassic Park, I presume that makes them USA items.

I bought one for emergencies, as there were no flat glass versions. It was about £10.

Just so you know, the ones they sell for the Left side have the writing upside down.

LOL! Yup, our very own DOT, aka Jurassic Park. I tried Dave Bean in the beginning, and that is how I learned about the $200 complete mirror assembly, that I would then have to paint.

Okay, it looks like my best bet is an English PASSENGER side mirror plate. If anyone has one, please let me know. Thanks.

I have two other sources:

Try this guy first, I bought a set (both sides, mirrors only) from him several months ago and he still had a couple others, ask for Ray:

This guy has a driver side mirror but his prices are a little high, ask for Frank:

I have a red passenger side mirror with the all the stuff except the actual mirror. I had mine replaced at for $900, what a rip off. I am located in Virginia. Take a look at my web site for mirror repair.
