Chris,

Tough call, I've not yet done the classic so can't comment from experience but understand it to be a very different atmosphere to the main event, a little more civilised and a lot less people. I would love to do the track day at Le Mans but the 24 Hours is an annual pilgrimage for the whole atmosphere and every year is different. If I can only do one it will be the 24 Hours. But If you have details of the track day I'd be interested

I've booked my ferry with Brittany for the 24 hours, £348 for the Elan my brother and me. Portsmouth to Caen, out on the Tuesday night 13 Jun at 2315 and back on the Sunday night, Caen to Portsmouth 2330 cabin accomodation in both directions. As much as I would like to do the track day at Le Mans (and I haven't yet given up hope) I think the 24 hours will be my only visit to Le Mans in 2006. Although recent talk of a holiday in France next year does raise the possibility of it coinciding with the classic, ne pas? :roll:

now looked at all the vids and photos and i'm sorely tempted. Some of those photos are really good, pin sharp - well done guys. Having said that when i look at the pics of the cars flying down the pitlane straight i keep thinking 'i can wait to do 110 down there into that chicane again'. it is a very tough call.

As expected Nige,

Would like to take same ferry as you but not sure of plans yet. It is highly likely that myself and Julian will be running the Edinburgh marathon on 11 June, in which case I think we'll fly Easyjet to Stansted on Monday then chunnel it by Volvo :cry:

though would like to make an appearnce in the Elan.

We were talking about Le Mans at the Southern Area meet last night so Scotts' revival of this thread is timely. I will need to go firm on ordering tickets towards the end of Feb, at which time I will need a firm committment on attendance from people and money will change hands. I currently have only ordered the 6 discounted camping tickets I can get as a member of the ACO and one of these is mine and one will be for Mark and his MGA. That leaves 4 definite camping tickets (one camping ticket required per vehicle) available for folks here although I'm confident I can get more if needs be (but not necessarily at the discounted rate)

List of those interested from page one of this thread is:

Me - First Ticket
Mark - Second Ticket
ScottJ - Third Ticket
Volvoman - Third Ticket with Scott

That leaves 3 camping tickets available for those who have expressed an interest as listed below.

Stef (deffo interested)
Ailwyn (provisional)
Alan (very provisional)
Lotus Phil (tempted)
nchase (probably own arrangements)
Westonben (Stag Weekend, own arrangements)

I'm assuming Scott and Volvoman are definites. Others listed need to confirm their intent, along with anyone else who might wish to go. If I'm to order additional tickets I need to do so sharpish. As stated before I will sort out camping tickets as these are the difficult bit, I leave people going to sort out their own ferry and any other travel arrangements. Race admission tickets (each person will need one of these) can be bought easily once at the circuit.

I'm off to le mans in june in the m100 and the classic le mans in the +2 solves all the problems with limited milage policies.....
hey and then buy a locost 7 replica thing for your track days......

myself and volvoman are definitely both coming but in 1 vehicle so only need 1 campsite pass.

probably a volvo estate :poke:

think I'll be flying easjet to london then channel tunnel this year. Hoping to get there a day earlier, Tues lunch, maybe meet MGA Mike if he is also heading over early.

Just noticed that in order to get the Le Mans 2006 start and finish on live TV (in France at least) as it will be competing in the schedules with the world cup the start has been delayed one hour to 1700 (French Time) on Sat 17 Jun, there will be extra supporting races (classics) before the main event to fill in the time. Main impact of this will be the 1700 finish on Sunday 18 Jun and the later getaway from the circuit. This will need to be factored into peoples return ferry plans. It won't affect the Caen Portsmouth crossing on the Sunday night that I've booked, just means less time to eat (and drink) in Caen before getting on the Ferry.

Anyone who intends to go should be doing something about booking a ferry now (unless doing the Dover Calais hop which should have plenty of capacity) as the longer sailings fill up quickly.

Finally, I have had my ticket allocation confirmed, and as I don't have a stampede of people wanting tickets (apart from Scott) I don't currently plan to order any more which leaves 2 or perhaps 3 of the all important camping tickets available on a first come first served basis.

Don't expect miricles here but there is a chance I'll be able to attend this. Just need to get minimum time off work to make it remotely possible.

What days/times are people planning to go and return? I would plan on passengering again if possible. Also speaking to a few TVR et all groups to possibly hitch lifts with. Naturally I will camp with my fellow Elaners though! :wink:

Great if you can make it. Currently I'm the only Elan (apart from those making their own way) and unfortunately don't have a spare seat as my brother has already blagged it. Scott and Volvoman are looking like definites, but not in an Elan I don't know how many seats they have.

Can't believe you are the only Elan Nige! WTF are everyone else doing?!

Le Mans has truely been an amazing experience for me and IMHO a motoring enthusiasts' must. Sure hope more can make it. It would also be nice to have a greater Elan presence there.

To anybody reading this thread wondering if they should do it, go for it! It is an amazing experience, really enjoyable, even if you are not a major motorsport fan.
