Arrg, this discussion is making me nuts! http://www.lambocars.com/archive/paintmur.htm is from the lamborghini website for Murcielago interiors. True (real) Alcantara is simply brushed (unfinished) leather, but leather nonetheless. A cow was killed; murder happened, call the cops. Just like there is faux leather in the marketplace, there is faux alcantara... it keeps the cost down to like 1/3 the price. If you saw the way my Maserati alcantara stretched when I cleaned it with a rag (it later shrank back into the original shape) you too would believe me. It is used not just because it is slightly cheaper than finished leather (it hides irregularities in the leather) but also as a styling tool. And if I might say so myself, used in moderation it looks great. Do you really think a synthetic product would NOT last as long as finished leather? Now that just doesn't make sense! C'mon people; I haven't had my coffee yet. :(

ps - the other reason it is used is to keep your *ss from sliding around in the seat!

Nitroman, obviously lotus can't afford the real thing, the trim girls there told me there alcantara was synthetic !. Please enjoy your coffee :)

My dictionary shows 2 definitions...

1. leather with a napped surface
2. fabric finished with a nap to simulate leather

Well Blacky's back, 186mls back from Newcastle in 3hrs, & she ran like a dream. Paint job looks superb & the hood fits properly now. Been to see the decal man this afternoon, & all being well will have them on 1st week in new year.....can't wait, think he's as enthusiastic as i am, which bodes well. Will obviously post pics when decals are on !
