Lotus Elan Central

Hi there! I have an Elan SE Turbo from '92 and when I'm driving on a bumpy road the gearlever sometimes jumps from 5th to neutral!
Did anyone have this kind of experience? Maybe one of the shift cables?
I'll appreciate some advice!

My first guess (because it's the cheapest to fix) would be a simple bit of adjustment of the fore/aft cable.

It's best to do the job with two people really - one to wiggle the gear lever and one to fine-tune the adjustment. Unless you're lucky and get it right by trial and error.

OK, when it fixes your problem, send us a bottle of Port to offset the huge garage bill I've just saved you! :lol:

I would at this point love to direct you to the "Broken Shifter Cable Replacement" article, but unfortunately THE LINK ISN'T WORKING!!!

Even if I would like to go to a garage (what I always try to avoid) there are no Lotus dealers anymore in Portugal...shame but true! Anyway I manage! After changing the cambelt, and constructing a simple, but very efective tool to do it, I think I'm prepared to do any job...About the Port when you come to the Algarve (= cabrio paradise) showing your nice Lotus I'll be glad to offer you a bottle of Port :lol:
