I am in awe of your tenacity. Not to underestimate what you've achieved, but now is the perfect time to tighten the drive belts, access the alternator or anything else you can think of, remove the exhaust to fit a "stiffy", and have the exhaust manifold Jet-Hot coated. Basically, the list never ever ends.

Congrats on having the guts or suitable quantity of beer to do what you've done!

p.s. - You don't suppose a FWD Northstar V8 would fit do you? :smt029

Actually there wasn`t to much wiring to disconect, but some were just difficult to get to. U`ve got the wires going to the coil side and the ones to the alternator, starter and think there was only one more going to a sensor. There was only 2 earth leads just above the alternator, which i thought there would be more :? Then u`ve got the gear cables, fuel pipes and oil cooler pipes which were a pain to get to. If u`r going to remove engine and gearbox out in one go, remove the filter bin and it`s bracket as it`s dam tight to get out

Dico`s got alot to do, cleaning, rust treatment  waxoyl change all the belts. Things to be painted or blinged. but i think he`s already lost the will to get it done :-D maybe ready for Donny 2007

I have just removed the cast iron piece of cr@p (which was a job and a half, with the engine out!)
The stiffy is being sent away next week to be ceramic coated.
My question is - Could porting the wastegate to 20mm have any negative effect? (should i just do it to be on the safe side)
Its an easy job whilst the engines out.

(Rant mode on)

Porting the wastegate IS the right thing to do. It is the wastegate aperture that is the major constriction in being able to control boost effectively. If you do not port the wastegate, then fitting the stiffy alone could potentially encourage boost creep due to the better flow characteristics. I am willing to be disproved on this, but as I see it the 16mm hole for the wastegate can only flow to a certain limit, and thus after that limit is reached, everything else goes through the turbo - which is uncontrollable, and hence we get boost creep. However below the flow limits of the wastegate, boost is controllable through the BSV. Thus there will be no ill effects to porting the wastegate as you will not be losing any boost.

(Rant mode off)

Gazza, i had a local bodyshop do it for him, same people that did mine. Time is really imaterial because we told them we were in no hurry, & they used 2 pack paint. They reckon theve done loads of these & never had a problem yet. Price was £50, as it was mettalic, its £40 for normal.

That looks nice. Bit surprised that the Isuzu is still there, but that's just personal preference I suppose.

Hey Dico, I notice that when you removed the engine you split the exhaust at the front pipe, rather than (as I would have expected) at the next joint back. How tough were the nuts to undo?

I'm just about to change my exhaust and mine look rusted to cr@p. Did you have to use lots of penetrating oil/heat/excessive force?

Cheers Paul :)

Neil, I suggest you have an exhaust/garage seperate your front pipe for you, unless you have access to oxy acetelene. I only managed to undo one of the three nuts, the other two broke at the stud.
I seperated it there as its being replaced with the stiffy so would have had to have been parted anyway.

Spent half an hour porting the wastegate this afternoon, 16mm to 20mm.

Isuzu? bit of a miscomunication there. But I'VE accepted it!

project creep -

Having removed and painted the fan cowlings i've now decided to remove, de-rust and paint the radiator support mount (the long box section that the rad sits on).
I have removed the two 13mm nuts along the bottom edge, what next? Does the fiberglass protection panel need removing? (hope not, rusty looking screws :? ) What holds the rad on at the top, or is it possible to leave the rad in position?

Cheers :)
