i fail to see why this overhang of the pad is such a big deal. it seams to me that it is anywhere between 1 and 4 mm to the out side of the disc.
if it is just 1 mm then it will be so thin that as the pad wears it will just break off not a prob.
if it is as much as 4 mm then why not just mark the unwanted material and then remove it using a bench grinder.
i intend to try this as soon as i can get hold of some calipers from a 16v gsi cav or calibra form my local breakers.
on another note when replacing the pads and discs i had a lot of fun trying to find parts anywhere apart from lotus i eventualy found the discs to be vauxhall cav 91 on 2.0 i and the pads to be the same as that fitted to a early nova van. these fitted the brakes do feel a little hard but will lock with efort. think the crap feel is down to crap standard calipers so cant wait to get rid.

Ah, the infamous thread
has anybody tried the corsa 1.7dti discs with the gte calipers yet?
Yes! You still get overhang. Amount depends on the pads. As you say this can be 1 to 4 or even 5mm. OE pads tend to be close to the edge of the backing plate while 'weatabix' can be 4-5mm inside. This was researched to death here finally resulting in the fine efforts of Brian and Alan on the Wilwood setup (which incidently I have now seen 'in the flesh' and the quality, particularly the rotor hats/ brackets, is amazing

). If you are determined to go the ATE way then you might want to consider the Vectra V6 option. 284 or 288mm Discs are available in 4 stud if you shop around(one of many
http://www.courtenaysport.co.uk/default.htm?page=24). You still get the overhang tho'

and will possibly need 16" wheels.

This
I have been corresponding with Mark Joseph at Disc Brakes Australia (DBA) about our Elan front rotor.
It seems with the specs and measurements I've emailed him, he has matched the Elan rotor to the GM/Opel Calibra.
They have this replacement in their DBA “Longlife Slotted” rotor.
The price for Longlife slotted would be US $85.00 each, plus shipping.
The Part Number is “DBA 023” and the weight is 5 Kg’s each.
Has anyone tried these? .. Do they fit and work better than the standards. Price for the slotted and X drilled = $AUD170 (about 70 quid) from the one supplied I spoke to.
Sorry if this has been answered before .. I tried wading through the nine pages, and couldn't find the answer.

Yes they should fit. Standard front discs are the same as UK Vauxhall Calibra and other contemporary Vauxhall/Opel models as well as some Protons as I remember.
