When you Gods and Administrators have quite finished squabbling over your women, :P
I have some news!

I got a fax today from the Melbourne Arms of their Special Banquet Menu.
Although plenty of other grub will be available on the evening, including childrens and traditional English, this offers by far the best value for money, and also helps them to serve us much more efficiently. The details are as follows:

Special Banquet Menu @ £16.00 per head

Nibbles:

Pappodums, Pickles and mint sauce

Starter:

Sheesh Kebab
Onion Bhaji
Chicken Tikka

Main Course:

Chicken Achariy
Chicken Tikka Masala
Balti Lamb
Vegetable Jalphreji

Pilau rice or Boiled rice

3 Variaties of Naan

Coffee & Mints

Full descriptions of the dishes can be found on the website http://www.melbournearms.co.uk

Shuttle Service
Pick up and drop off within a 6 mile radius, ideal for East Midlands Airport or Donington Park. (min 6 people)

For those coming form the other hotels, maybe some arrangements they would be so kind as to come collect you! Saves on the taxi scenario.

Friday Night Social

Postby algirdas » Sun 29.01.2006, 23:27

Dear Sirs and Mesdames:

Are the Friday evening festivities open to all (as in LEC-types)? If so, and you would not mind having a jet-lagged Americano falling asleep in his chicken curry, would it be okay if I were to join?

Please remember that I am new to the M100 so I WILL be asking many stupid questions. I hope my amateur status does not upset the ebb and flow of the evening and, if it does, please just tell me to shut up.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

algirdas, you're more than welcome - just don't take too much notice of the alcohol induced Elan advice. Theories seem to get more and more radical as the evening wears on and the bottles empty!

Dear Sy:

I can't be too careful. The first time I visited England, I wasn't in your fine, fine, FINE country 30 minutes and I had already fallen victim to one of the best practical jokes of all time.

Only then did I gain a full appreciation for the expression "We only cheat drunks and tourists."

Sincerely,

Algirdas

I might be able to make the curry too but I don't know for sure yet so I won't add my name to the list. Is there a firm date we need to have told you yea/nay by?

I'm sure there will be a degree of flexibility the week of the event, and even on the night.
But if everyone who hasn't signed up already is counting on that, then the numbers provided up front to the Melbourne Arms will be massively inaccurate.
That would leave them in a mess (and possibly unwilling to accommodate us in future - which would be a shame), or it could mean big delays in being seated and served, which would annoy everyone - especially those who put their names down early.

So in short, the earlier I can give a reasonable estimate of numbers the better.

In the past I have found that it's easier to turn up with less people on the night than to try and squeeze more people in, again we would not want to turn up with half the arranged numbers.

The general rule should be that if your fairly sure you'll be there then book up, otherwise wait until closer to the day and take a chance on availability. Whichever way you go try and firm up as soon as possible.

Neil,
Please add another three people to the curry list - me, Andrew Ennis and Andrew's mate (don't know his name).

We'll be staying at the Melbourne Arms.
