Will be there...

Postby Costas » Thu 22.12.2005, 19:46

I know Cjay is the one who will come from the most distant country to Dony, but I shall drive the longest run to get there. It will take me 4-5 days driving the least and over 4.600 km (both ways). Will have to refuel over 15 times!!!

Its very early to trouble you with questions since my brains are still messed up due to my personal family losses and I cant make any decisions yet.

I shall make my bookings again at the same hotel as last year to be prepared and time will tell.

I just have to let you know that its a dream of mine to meet you all in person, and I hope I ll make it this year.

Donington

Postby algirdas » Tue 03.01.2006, 18:47

I was planning on being there anyway, but now it is settled-I am going to be there for certain. I have to meet Costas and see that machine of his. I spent a few hours last night going over the thread of his car and I'm only halfway through it!. Phenomenal.

See you in March!

Sincerely,

Today I booked my room at Holiday INN, so things are on their way now.

Along with my "Brave Co-passenger" we plan to be there on Friday noon. We will depart from Athens either on Tuesday night or Wednsday noon.

We are gonna drive from Athens for 200km to the Port of Patras, catch a Cruise Ferry and travel to Ankona Italy (20hours in the sea) then travell through Italy to France and Calais. get acroos to Dover and drive again to Dony. We havent planned our stops since we want them to be random...

Sh4rk is going tomorow for a Full thorough Service and engine upgrades that Greg wants to do before this trip. Perhaps I ll manage to install and the new MOMO seats I want to...

CYA at Dony!

Trying to put strings together.....

is the best option to get across from france through Calais to Dover? Alternatives?

How long is this sea trip? and how far is Dony from Dover?

Need an estimation of how long is it gonna take to drive non-stop from Dovaer to Dony, withing legal speedlimits.

I need this feedback to plan the trip since I dont know if we have to be at Dover thursday night or Friday morning to make it to Dony before Friday noon.

Any help is most appreciated...

Costas

The atlas says Dover to Donny is 200 miles, give or take a few. That's fine if you're a crow - for a shark it looks more like 250 to me, mostly motorway.

If for any reason you arrive at Dover late Thursday and are too tired to push on, I'm just outside Ashford (about an hour from Dover) and have a spare room; there's only a single bed, so your passenger would get the camping mattress.

I'll be leaving sometime Friday morning, but I value my licence too much to stay with you for very long.

Let me know if it's a possibility and I'll pm you my number.

Thanks for the offfer, I will keep in mind to see if we can do the British part of my trip together.

Whats the speed limit on motorway? 70mph? so more or less its a 4 hours drive from Dover to Donny?
I intend to follow all speed limits.

Yes it's 70, but if you do that only the lorries will be slower than you!
Most do 80-85 (except on the M25), and only behave themselves when they see a police car or a speed camera.

Track Days at Donny

Postby davidjt » Tue 14.02.2006, 11:35

Costas

One more thing - this may have been covered elsewhere - did you know there's an open pitlane track day on the 18th?

It's £175, and you'd have to meet the tight 98dBa noise limit, but as you're coming all that way, and if I remember right a Senna fan as well, might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?

I think that only motorbikes and cars with NO exhaust really have to worry about the noise limit, but IIRC the measuring equipment is at the start/finish line, so if you don't go too mad at that point then you're fine anyway.

WOWWWWW! This trip is getting better and better! if I decide to participate do I have to prepay or can I do so on the same day?

Driving a Lotus at the same track that Senna did? This is Dreamland!

My only concern is that at my hometown I do push Sh4rk at its limits and if something goes wrong I know I have DSP and Greg 5 minutes away of my home. But if something goes wrong at Dony, how am I gonna drive 2500miles back? We shall see....

It's almost certain to be a sell-out, I haven't checked availability; booking & payment via www.bookatrack.com .

At tracks with a history, you don't necessarily have to thrash it all the time; savouring the moment at 8/10ths works, too.

Please PM me some Phone #s. I wont bother you if not in need. :smt120

In short, we are travelling from Athens to Patra Seaport get on board a cruise ship, travel across to Ancona Italy (22 hours trip) then drive all the way North via Autostrata through various cities like Bologna and Milano, go through Tunnel to Switzerland, cross all of Swiss, then France and finnaly Calais seaport. Get across to Dover, the rest should be a known route for all of you (Dover-Donington).

Will post in detail the complete trip with distances and hopefully timetable.
