Alan

You'll be glad to here that your judgement is as sound as ever. I replied to Paul via IM recommending TD and then read the latest offerings on this thread.
No more ES dumps for you as yet because, on opening my bonnet for the first time since reteurning from Hethel I was alarmed to see the engine bay very dirty and black deposits on the cross member of the heat shield at the front of the engine.

Finger probe revealed black substance to be soot (I did tell you I'd converted the Elan to run on horse droppings and Silver Birch chips didn't I?)
I had also said that I suspect a leak somewhere in the system because of the engine note change at above certain revs.
Looks like my mega turbo has blown the outlet to stiffy gasket (wastegate manifolf to turbo) A100E6098S.

Not much has gone on with the car of late except the Samco hoses. Since i went with blue hoses i had to replace my red ones which were on the IC pipes and the vaccum pipes, also had to order a reducer for the pipercross 80mm to 70mm. The pipercross is now fitted but with out the air feed as i need to work out were to put this which i will sort when i replace my gearbox (if and when i get it back from quaife)

This looks good Monty, presume its really similar to the Hurricane kit mentioned elswhere ?. Question, because the casing is smaller than the original one, will this flow as much air ?, or does it condense it more ?. I'm certainly interested in this sort of set up, but is it just for show, or is there any benifit ?

I believe it`s similar to the Hurricane, this pipercross is £250 on there website  but i got it of ebay for £62 :-D, the last one i saw on ebay went for £125. On there website there getting a 10bhp + with induction kits but these are NA cars but saying that IIRC they do one for the turbo esprit. For me, i`m going for the looks + it`s design to stay cooler than the engine bay.

Have a read of this:-

Monty,

Take these HP gains with a pinch of salt. I'm sure they don't just replace what's there originally with a shiny new Pipercross and get an instant +10 HP gain. I bet there's a bit of subtle tweaking/timing/tuning before they measure the increase in performance.

Call me a sceptic but...

Mark

PS BTW you need a new coolant expansion tank. That orginal one lets the rest of your nice shiny engine bay down. Reasonably cheap at SJS - about 20 - 25 quid for the tank and new cap IIRC but minus VAT and postage

Mark,
I hope the peeps who pay £250 do get the extra 10bhp  Not sure if they`ll be any extra HP on a turbo thou :? I know of one fell who use to be on here that when he dyno his car he also removed the air filter and got an extra 5 bhp

Would love to have a Ally expanstion tank but this would have to be done correctly to match the cap unless we mod one of a shelf.

Must admit, it does look cool, are you gonna find out if it releases the pressure Monty ?

The Nova tank is the same as ours so the cap might be same :? BTW just checked Baileys web site and the price is similar to e-bay so you may as well get it direct. I'm sure they could supply you with a 17.5 PSI cap if you ask nicely :P

The Vauxhall pressure cap is the same rating as the Lotus one, so if the Bailey tank is the same as the standard, then you will be fine.

I'm not into Bling either - well I do have a few Stainless bolts / washers  - but each to their own. As for the water level my tank is so cloudy I have to take the top off as well :(
Anyway the Bailey cap is 19 PSI to "increase the boiling point". which is true - in fact that's really the point of the cap in the first place. I used to run old minis and even a Lotus twin cam without a pressure cap as the water pump leaked under pressure. Worked a treat in this shite climate! I'm sure the M100 can withstand an extra 1.5 PSI if everything is in good condition ;-) Might even let us run a hotter stat to improve the heater

When i was replacing my vacuum pipes i noticed a spout which was open with nothing conected to it and just looked at Dico`s engine and his has a rubber blank on it. Does any one know what this is for and would it effect the runing of the car?

Here`s a pic
