That would work. If we do bid on this successfully then I'm willing to collect from Poole (there are some advantages to being in Dorset) and transport to Donington in my Elan along with the display panels I made up for Stoneleigh. Anyone up for bidding, I don't currently have time to sit on E bay?

If you give me a max ill setup auction sniper to place the bid 3 seconds before the auction finishes. This usually wins auctions as it doesnt give people something to bid against, it also removes temptation to keep bidding higher.

Here's the specs

Lightweight versatile display unit
Made in two pieces, top section locks into the bottom panels
When folded the unit is totally portable and fits in most car boots
Supplied with carrying bag Panel size: 900x600x20mm Assembled size: 1825x1800/900mm

So the question is, will 900x600x20mm fit into the back of an Elan ?

I doubt it would fit in the boot, might be able to squeeze it in the passenger area.

I think you might be surprised.
I was able to squeeze a 700 x 480 x 320mm suitcase into my boot at the weekend.
Having just tried a couple of pieces of dowel 1000mm and 650mm long, I reckon that one of those boards will lie flat in the boot if you put it into the recess nearest the bumper first, and then drop the top edge in past the hinges.
Not sure about behind the seats - can't be bothered to take the cover and the roof off at this time of night to check!
Could probably get at least one behind each seat though.

BTW - I'm happy to volunteer an hour on the stand each day.
If anyone is displaying stuff which is likely to get asked about though, could they leave contact details so that those on the stand don't have to keep suffering the indignity of saying "er, dunno" all the time?

It pains me to say that I don't think there will be an LEC stand at Donington this year as no one has stepped up to the mark to make it happen. However, if you let me know the sizes of the panels, how many and if you could get them I'd be willing to ask Club Lotus if they could find us a piece of wall and the displays I did for Stoneleigh could be used again. They may of course say no at this stage, but if you don't ask.............. I am only at Donington on the Saturday so whilst I'm not fussed about recovering the displays I made you would need to recover your panels at the end of the show. At least this would provide an LEC focal point inside the show.

PS. I haven't forgotton I owe you a DVD, have just been flat out since Stoneleigh, I do however faithfully promise I will bring it to Donington if I haven't sent it to you before that.

Hold on there!

I think the stand is almost essential! I can be down on Friday to help if necessary but it won't be till after 6. I think a lot of people are dependign on this stand for one reason or another.

Lets get this show organised!

Think it's a bit late now for anything like we had last year or at Stoneleigh.

It's not a question of where the stand JimP donated is currently stored (after all we didn't have that at Donington last year) but the fact that despite this thread no one has offered to take the lead and I'm unable to do it this time. I would much prefer that we have some form of focal point for LEC hence the question to Dans. If he can produce the panels then I'd be willing to set them up on the Friday night, any help would be welcome (before the curry!).

Fraid Stef that unless CL agree last minute to give us some stand space, and someone is willing to take a lead on setting up the stand, there just wont be one. Hence this thread has been here for some time, just no-one has come forth.

Nige me and Liz will be there pre-curry to help out with setting up any stand if there is one.

I'll contact the man at CL and see what charms I can work.

If we get space I'll then see what I can do about getting up earlier to help with set up.

I think even if we have some tables and a wall to stick stuff up on it will be better than nothing.

From a fairly selfish POV I have asked a few people to see us at our stand and would like to use it for the Guinness Book of Records promotion.

It will also be a fairly safe haven for bleary eyed drunks to recover at!

Sadly I cannot help with transporting a lot of stuff so if anyone can pipe up on provisions I'd be greatful!

C'mon team! Lets rally together and stamp our mark! :-D

Ok I've just come off the phone to Sy.

If Stef can get us a space, and if I can get the day off work, then there is just about enough (£126) in the LEC kitty for us to be able to hire a van.

I could use this to pick up the Stoneleigh stand from Nige's, bring it back to Donington and set it up (with help), and we could also use it for ferrying people about on the Saturday night if needed.

Only thing is, this would empty the kitty. With fuel costs it could even leave me footing the bill for the difference. So I was wondering - would people who participated in the convoy be prepared to donate a couple of quid each to replace the depleted LEC funds?

I guess a chair or two is required - I have a camping chair and stool that could be used. Where are the AB cable samples, brakes, carbon bits and other previously displayed stuff stored? What else do we need?

Now what was that about spandex? Maybe Stef and her friend can oblige Rambo's fantasies?

chipping in for expenses is no trouble for what i get out of this forum thats a small price to pay. I'm just sorry that i can't get more involved with the stand problem this year. Perhaps over a pint at Donington we could discuss what we are going to do for the future so as to avoid this for the years to come. I think that the stand at Stoneleigh was a great effort, many people being impressed with it. Playing devils advocate here but the stand is unlikely to be as good unless some last minute effort is made and i'm wondering if we should hold fire this year and make a decent effort for Donington 2007 when hopefully Stef will have got the record attempt staged??!!

The other thing is that cost has raised its ugly head and this needs to be discussed on ways to fund the stand etc.

This all sounds a bit heavy and at the end of the day i would not want the friendly atmosphere of LEC to get ruined because of over bearing administration etc but it also has to be realised that all these things come at a cost. The last thing i want to see is a few of the members footing the bill for things that are to be enjoyed by all. Having said that i know that there are those out there that are prepared to do just that without any obligation!!!

So Sy, my proposal is that we have a half hour meeting at some stage to discuss where people want to go on this maybe saturday evening and preferably before the sixth pint! Just my two pence worth as they say :roll:
