Bonnet alignment

Guys do me favour, have a look at your car nose on. Where the bonnet meets the edge of the offside light pod (left as you look at it from the front) dip a bit so that it is not flush with the bumper. Mine does and i have noticed from a lot of photos on this site that others do as well. Can anything be done about it?

Mine seems flush Chris - at least I think it does from your description. Have you only got this on the offside ? What about the nearside ?? Can you post a picture ??

Hi Mark, no it seems ok on the nearside. if you press down on the nearside the offside comes up and looks ok. Have a look at that nice black SE that is being adverised on this site and on pistonheads and you'll see what i mean.

in the above photo i have since adjusted the light pod so that it is flush but the bonnet looks a bit more difficult

What can I tell ya mate, it's a Lotus. It doesn't look like there's any easy solution. You'd have to bend down the bumper but then the bumper would have a nick in it's form. My experience has been there's never perfect witht he Elan, just "as good as you can get it."

Chris, sometimes you amaze me - we keep doing this: I was just about to post something about exactly the same topic! I had noticed the same thing on mine. It seems to me as though there is a potential fix if only you could get the bits.

There are a couple of bonnet alignment screws topped with rubber stoppers that sit just behind the light pods. And there are also a couple of tapped holes just inboard of the light pods (all are marked with "X"s in my 2nd pic).

So I reckon that if you could get 2 more of the rubber stoppery things, then you could insert them in the tapped holes, set the heights so that they are perfect, and Robert's your father's brother!

What I was going to ask though, is if any S2 owners can confirm whether they are standard on their cars?

I think mine has them where youve marked the lower x's - is it not standard to have them there?

Mines a 1991 SE and it has them - Ive just been out and checked...theyre exactly where youve marked between the lights

I'm suprised yours has them Ratty, maybe a previous owner fitted them?
Mines a late SE, registered in 93 and has the very front ones fitted. All S2's have them.
I would imagine they can be bought?
If not, find a couple of correct size bolts in stainless and find out which caps Sy has fitted to his.

On my SE there are also 2 plastic/rubber spacers fitted to the bonnet which may affect alignment. Buffer, 10mm, self adhesive,bonnet front X046B6003Z. SJ have them for pennies.
