The Oldtimer Grand Prix is, of course, worth a visit and a great opportunity to meet fellow autosport enthousiats and other Lotus owners.
Just for that reason I will probably visist this event some other time.


Driving the Nordschleife is a FANTASTIC experience but it takes a LOT of concentration because it is so challenging. Much traffic riding with all sorts of speeds make is even more dangerous!

I feel that, when the main objective is to go drive yourself on The Nordschleife (especially without any Nürburgring experience that is) one should best keep away from the busy days. I absolutely won't go on track then.

With to many amateurs on track, who all think they are Michael Schumacher or Valentino Rossi, the risk to get into an accident by ones own doing or by the fault of someone else is much to high for me.
And I don't have to worry about learning the 72 twists and turns there..........

When one plans to do a couple of laps there the first time I strongly recomment a quiet day in the middle of the week or some afternoon.
Much more and safer possibillities to try and get the feel of it but beware: you might want to get back there and do morre, and more, and more laps again and again and again

P.S. You drive FAST there and you also needs your brakes a lot. Check or replace your brake pads and brake fluid before you leave from home and take a spare along

Point taken Michael. Well what does everyone think. There are a number of scenarios, some of which i will list.

1. Change the date to a time until it is anticipated that the ring will be reasonably quite. This would almost certainly mean going mid week.

2. Keep the venue the same time/place but go a day earlier or leave a day later to try and get a quieter day on the ring.

3. Keep the venue the same but get up really early to be one of the first to get on on the monday.

I'm sure there are more possibilities but frankly to predict when we can get a clear run is virtually impossible. If anyone has got any other ideas please post.

Just to make it clear, on the present plan we will arrive at the campsite on the Thursday and leave on the monday. So ferries will have to be booked earlyish for Thursday (8am i would suggest) and latetish on monday say (6pm).

Sounds good to me. What time does the track open? Earlier/quieter the better for me.
I also am not planning on blasting round, but would just like the oportunity of driving round 'The Ring'. Having said that, you probably need to keep your speed up, and use your mirrors regularly.

The main reason for me wanting to go though is for the grill bar on the ferry Dont ya just love meat!

And to combine the oldtimer grand prix sounds like a good idea.

Mind that, early in the mornings the track can be rather tricky because of unexpected damp places in the shadow and/or under the trees. Also is known that in the very early hours animals (deer) have been seen on the the tarmac....

I certainly will try to join a visit together when planned on a more quiet day

Would it be wise for one person to book all ferry tickets to ensure we can all go together?

I reckon we should get a ferry for around 9am. There is a ferry at 8.40am. With the return trip it works out to £70 plus a £10 fuel surcharge making £80.

Nearly ran over a deer in scotland last week. It ran paralel with my truck for 50 yards. If my window was down i could have grabbed it!
Ended up with cold truckstop chili instead

you will need to give reg no of the car and each car has to be done separately. Passenger names will be required as well. Oh and credit card details may be crossed checked against travellers name!! I think it would best if you booked your own trip to avoid confusion.

Print off the ferry booking confirmation and remember to bring it with you. I've done this trip loads of times and its pretty painless.

As it looks like it really is a goer i'll book tonight. if you can all do the same in the next few days there should be no trouble getting on the same ferry.

See above for the ferry booking in Dover. It looks like it will probably be the best and cheapest way for you to do it. The above few postings will give you the time and dates of the ferry which will be £80 for a return ticket.

It's booked in the name of "Lotus Klub Danmark". There are room for at least 30 cars/tents, and as we'r not likely to be more than 10 from DK, there is plenty of space for everyone, and if we have to, I'm sure we can even squize in a couple more. You don't have to pre-book the campsite, as we have already reservated the area, but ofcourse I will like to know in advance, just to know how many Tuborg's I have to bring.

I suggest you take a ticket for the hole event, cost 58 Euro's. Ticket can be bourght at the Ring. Come Thursday evening and go back monday morning.That gives you the best of all, and NO TRAFFIC.

Yes, it's in German, but it basically tells you how to pre-book a ticket. 4 rounds for 56 Euro's + 5 Euros for sending the ticket to you.Only valid in 2006.

At the site you can buy ticket for only 1 roundtrip. Can't remnember the actual price, but think to remember it was 25 Euro's.

In my opinion 1 roundtrip is enough, as there is likely to be a lot of traffic, but it will give you the taste of RACE, and it will qualify you to drive with that famous black sticker on the boot.

If the whether is perfect, you can always take one more tour.!.



If you clik on the map, it come up larger, and there you can see both the new and old track. On the old track you can find "Nordschlifen-zufarth", that's where you buy tickets an drive on/off the Ring. There are signs everywhere so it's easy to find. All triangels marks spots where you can drive to on the normal roads, park, and watch the action on the ring.

I think you'll have to read the terms and conditions but there will be penalties without a doubt - i would try to stay with the original booking if i were you.
