Still going, but can't get the hang of changing gear with my right hand, so it's boring Shuttle & boring TGV; if we had a camera crew, we could do a Top Gear-type race: I'd be the bemused eccentric with the fly-away hair.

I'll keep an eye open for a couple of Elans and a pile of beer cans.

Sorry I missed you Phil, but what a fantastic meeting.

More than 5000 classic cars in the club areas, ranging from over 1200 Porsches through over 200 Loti to THE Jaguar XK13 from the Heritage Museum.

390 cars competing, from 1925 Bugattis to 1979 Ferraris for 24hours almost non-stop.

A definite date for the next meeting in 2008.

I agree with Geoff, a really good event and well worth the trip for anyone interested in classic racing cars (which competed at Le Mans between 1923 to 1979).

The entry was split into 6 categories based on age of the cars, with 3 races for each category over the 24 hours. So all six run on Saturday afternoon/evening, then agian in the early hours of Sunday, and then again on Sunday afternoon until the 4.00 pm finish.

The oldest 4 categories had a traditional Le Mans start, with the drivers running across the track to their waiting cars. Actually after the first corner they then reformed the grid for a rolling start as they crossed the start line at the end of the first lap, I think this is done for safety. But the Le Mans start was still pretty hairy!

Access to the paddocks was 20 Euro and well worth it, in addition to free access to all of the club displays, including a big one from the Lotus Club of France.

Atmosphere was great, and in many ways the event was more enjoyable than the 'real' Le Mans 24 hours.

It only runs every 2 years, so next event is 2008.
