East meets West

Postby a5gcd » Sun 25.06.2006, 15:35

At the last West Midlands meeting we thought it would be a good idea to meet up with the East Midlanders somewhere in the "middle". This could be an evening or a weekend lunchtime.

Any thoughts on the idea??

Excellent idea!

Around Daventry should be fairly reasonable or how about the Green Man on the A43 near Silverstone?

IMO, Daventry's a bit too far South for an East/West Mids meet Stef.
Perhaps somewhere in the Coventry area?

Coventry area sounds good - IIRC Geoff mentioned the name of a pub when we met up a little while ago....

Taking Oakham to Bromsgrove as route, Hinckley looks about as central as possible , but don't know where most of you guy's are based ?
Silverstones a possibility, but a bit further. Considering the 2 & a bit hrs travelling involved it might be best to consider this a weekend jobby, as people getting in from work, might not want all the travelling ?

Hmmm. Cov is just down the A14 and M6.

Does anyone know any pubs in some of the surrounding villages? Rather than go into the big town of Coventry.

If you are happy with somewhere around the Coventry area, this one http://www.oldmillhotel.com/index.html is just off the A45. I haven't used it myself but they tell me that there is a large car park and a separate overflow area that we could comandeer. If we opted for a weekend meet they do a Sunday roast for £7.95 with apple pie on the menu to follow :D

If anyone is in the area perhaps they could check it out.

I did find another pub that would fit the bill. The Fradley Arms, its on the A38 just north of Lichfield, not far from Curborough if you know it. http://www.goodpubrestaurants.co.uk/sho ... taurant=93

They do good meals and have an offer of 2 for £10, very good value.

If we are happy with either of these, we need a "when", any suggestions???

Due to the travelling, this would have to be a sunday for me. Dates i'm free are July 23rd, August 19th & 26th. So shall we see if these are any good for yourselves ?

This will be the problem in the Summer. July 23rd is Cooper day at Prescott, Sunday Aug 20th a family do and Sunday 27th Oulton Park. I can do Sunday 13th Aug and then I am OK for Sept

I can recommend the Old Mill mentioned earlier. Spent many enjoyable evenings there when I used to live near Coventry.

I should be able to make most weekends throughout summer, so look forward to meeting you all!

I'll happily let others decide since I can't get on LEC much these days and make best efforts to go to where is chosen!

east/west meeting

Postby taffy » Tue 11.07.2006, 09:48

Sounds good, especially since it is on my doorstep. If you are looking for something in the countryside between Tamworth and Hinckley let me know.
Unfortunately I am on holidays  (or fortunately :-D , depends how you look at it) until August 1st. so can only attend after that. The 13th looks good though :D

Just thought Dave, Sy, Neil, Paul et al might want to consider some cross region harmony at some stage soon.

I'm sure we're all good mates really so shouldn't we get together and drink as such
