Window just stopped

Hi can anyone help me. I bought my elan last sept and it had new window motor fitted. However the other day for no apparent reason it just stopped working. Is it likely to be the motor or could it be something as simple a new switch??

From my experiances, if you have either a relay or switch fault, I'd expect the window to go in either the upwards or downwards direction. I guess the exceptions would be a relay fault.

Ok, here's the plan.

1) Check to see if you can hear the relays clicking.
2) Swap the two relays with known working ones ie the ones from the other door.
3) Try changing the switches over.

The motor works via a two wire connector & goes up and down by the reversal of their polarity i.e done by the relays. So if the relays etc are all working then the fault has to be with the motor.

Now if the motor mech is jammed, you could experiance the above, so try wiggling the glass, whilst pushing the button as it may well just free it.

You can also get to the wireing loom as it enters the door via the door post. 'Open' it up and check it out with your volt meter as it's easier than removing the door pannel.

So to conclude, a failure of the switch/relay, should result in the window being able to move in one direction (check to hear for noise ie relay clicking/motor jerking).
