Not a cry for help but a solution - locked keys in boot

Postby Russc » Mon 10.07.2006, 12:00

Hi all,

I did a very clever thing this weekend and managed to lock my keys in the boot, yes yes you can stop laughing now :-D

Was told that the only way i could effect entry is by either breaking the rear light or smashing the lock. Obviously didn`t want to do either of these.

There is another way of gaining entry that doesn`t cause any damage to the car.

Obviously i`m not going to post the details here as anyone can read it. However should you ever need the details please PM me and i`ll let you know.

Please be aware, i will not release these details unless you are 1. a member 2. been here a while or can be vouched for by another member.

Had a faliur on my lock just last week, but I found a way, where the boot can be opend almost without any damage from the softtop compartment. So no panic.!.

1. Loosen the carpet on the area into the boot.
2. Drill 2 holes 5 cm offside center (to clear the bootlight), One to tool access and one to see through. Bend the boot carpet down for access.
3. Using 2 extensionsrods + 13 mm top, and undo the bolt holding the the lock bracket, and the boot will open.
4. Glue back the carpet, and all signs gone.!.
Pic's incluted.

Blimey, that`s a lot of hassle.

The way i know takes 10 minutes at most and involves no need to have access to inside the car, or damages the car in any way. Hence why i`m not posting the details up :)

That and you can fir the lock back and carry on as normal. I imagine it would also work on lock failure.

Actually the piccies are a good idea. I`ll take some and then put it all together in a guide.

I`ll do that in the next couple of days :)

Dear All:

Ok, I'll bite. Would someone be so kind as to PM me the solution as well. The curiosity is starting to make me just a little bit crazy.

Sincerely,

Having inadvertently locked my keys in the boot/trunk twice I have become well acquainted with the removal of the lock and replacement thereof. I too have a much easier solution now but I would be interested to hear if Russ's is simpler ?

Mark

PS Who on earth did Lotus not couple the boot/trunk up to the central locking when they initially designed it ? Yet another of Hethel's idiosyncrasies !!
