Hiya,

Sorry haven`t forgotten about this. Just need to sort out the piccies, will have the guide mailed around by the weekend :)

Lots of other ideas i`ve heard from this, some pretty good ones. This one doesn`t need a key though and doesn`t damage the car in any way.

Pretty scary how easy it is to do. I reckon you could open a boot within a minute with 2 people and the right tools :(

Ditto on the PM, please. With as much work as I do on the car, it's bound to happen. Although the previous owner cut subwoofer sized holes in the panel separating the boot and roof storage areas (Delta's are nothing, believe me!). I could likely send a small child with a socket into the back to remove the lock. :?
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

I'd be interested to know from a security point of view and to see if there is anything that could be changed to prevent it being so apparently easy to open :?

I'm somewhat interesting having done so and needed to get my spares to retrieve. Have actually considered fitting a remote boot release.

There may be a way we can store this secure information on LEC so that only members and known ones at that can access it.

Tony,

I'm sure I read a "how to break into an Elan boot" thread on here a few months ago but I can't find it, so it looks like it was (wisely) removed. Any chance you could check to make sure?

What about putting Russ's info in the manuals section or similar, where access is already controlled by Sy?

Yes the last thread was removed once the information was given the stranded motorist.

Not a cry for help-but a solution

Postby algirdas » Tue 18.07.2006, 14:23

Dear Russc:

Would you be so kind as to re-send the one to me? Mine apparently got lost in the ether.

Sincerely,

No problem, what`s your e-mail address.

As for the number plate surround, yes it could well be but you don`t actually have to do anything to it if you don`t want to.

Well it will never happen to me will it ?

IT JUST HAS...

Drove down to Annecy (France) to see Spurs Vs Celta Vigo. Really warm day, top off etc etc..

Arrived there and opened the boot, threw my belongings in there, wallet, phone, keys, and various things that were in my pockets.

Went around to the passenger side, unclipped the softop, lifted the rear lid, at which point the boot slamed shut, due to the lock out device..no worries yet.
Manually locked the doors...pushing the knobs down, closed them.

Put hand in pocket.....and think of this thread, it will never happen to me....Lucky I only live some 30 miles away, so the second set were retrieved...

PS Spurs won 2-0

to sum it up, yes please put me on the secret list

Cheers
Neil
