Discoverd today that much of the sloppiness in my 'change is due to broken/worn nylon bushes at the lever end: the big circular one that the ball-joint 'sits' in and the rectangular one to the right.

Does anyone happen to know if/where these are available?

Thanks

Perhaps these guys make the stiffer plastic ones?

David, I'm sure the answer to your question is "no".
The solution is replacement cables.
If I were you I'd PM Dico - FAST!

I already have AB cables: it was the lack of any marked improvement that prompted the investigation. The cables are doing their job but the problem is sloppiness at the stick, which as far as I can see can't be adjusted for, hence the search for new bushes. (Should I be worried that they're not shown in the exploded drawing?) I'll call PM on Tuesday, and failing that, try investigating Isuzu parts.

Ah yes, I see what you mean now.
I read your post in a hurry and thought you meant the plastic shrouds that the circlips go around - sorry.

I guess you'll be able to identify it here?

This is part of the puzzle - the small rectangular one could be the one marked 'Nylon face towards lever', but the big one is inside the Gearlever base unit, and not shown separately, which is weird.
For now, it's packed with one of those 'instant goo' greases, which has taken up some of the play, but it's still far from perfect.[/i]

David, I was sort of thinking along the same lines for the large ball & socket joint.
You could mould your own socket with Chemical Metal (you can get it from Halfords).

What you would have to do is:
Remove the circlip from the top of the base unit and lift out the broken pieces of nylon.
Shroud the ball tightly in cling-film with no creases.
Fill the hole with an excessive amount of Chemical Metal.
Squidge the ball into the hole so that it formed the right shape.
Leave it to dry, and when it had, remove the cling film.

It wouldn't be simple, but it might work.

Interesting idea - thanks; I think it's probably a last resort, though - can't believe the nylon one is unobtainable: if it is, everyone will have the same problem, eventually.

(Opted for the F3/British GT meeting at Brands today, as opposed to the treck up to Oulton; Jon Palmer has obviously been training his stewards properly: I was waved straight to the 'Supercars' parking/display area! :D )

Close enough to 10 for me so I will kick this off. Unfortunately some holidays will prevent this until the end of the week so they should be ready 2nd or 3rd week in Sept. Will keep you informed.

As for the Nylon ball joints you talk about Davidjt, the one shown above as 'Nylon face towards lever' refers to the bushes that are in the cable ends. I can't find the ones you refer to listed separately so I guess you have to buy the complete shift assy to get them
Mine were also worn a bit - 98000 miles - so I just shimmed the outside Dia of the spherical ones (Note they are in 2 halves so maybe yours are not 'broken' after all?) to squeeze them in a bit - 6 thou IIRC. For the rectangular one I just nipped the steel slider a tad  Add some suitable grease and Bob's ya Marley - worked for me anyway

David, interesting that you have the AB cables but still have the rubber bushes. The AB cables I got included some tougher bushes. The shifting was notably more positive and less sloppy. I thoroughly enjoyed them more!

Update:
Weld jig is just about finished. However Clevis pin supplier has let me down. Have new ones on order but they are 303 stainless - quite close to the 304 everything else is so hope it is OK. This will delay things about one week  as they are the first things needed in the welding process.

Fubar,

It was the 4 rubber mounting bushes I had in mind, which probably make next to no difference, not those with the cables; so far, it seems that the important (nylon) ones are only available with a new lever, at £97 + VAT.

Is WillB unable to get just those bushings without the cables?! Let me see if I can find a place to source the bushings. I'll PM if I find anything.

Hi there Doc

I need some of these bushes too. If you can find who made them that would be great as it seems rediculas to pay £97 fro a new gaer lever when it is just these bushes that have worn.

For the toime being I took the bushes out and turned them round the other way. This improved things slightly but still loads of play in the ball seating.
