Been a long road but the welded parts will be complete on Monday next week. After that I will trial fit each one to my gearbox to make sure all is OK and then you can send me your hard earned  Should be able to get them sent out by the end of next week.

Spoke to the welder chappie today and decided to take the first one home and trial fit before going ahead with the rest of them.
Did this tonight and all is well :D so he will finish them tomorow. Need to finalise the fitting instructions this week so they should be ready to go at the weekend.
Will you all still want them now that AB is on the case?

Dave,
Like I said previously, it's like a no 14 bus: we've waited for one for ages, and now there's three come along at once.

However I've always believed in getting on the first one. Yes please.

3 out of 11  Getting a bit worried!
Seriously underestimated the time (& investment ) involved in making this happen so thanks to those who have been patient in waiting for this bus
Anyway here are my babies. Drill template, a few washers & clips are missing from the photo. I have them waiting but you can get an idea what to expect.

A little bit of fettling needed, final assembly check and I must get those install instructions finished blah, blah - will be ready to go this weekend so watch out for a PM coming your way. Trust you are all happy with pay-pal, if not let me know :D

Dave's Shortshift

Postby algirdas » Tue 19.09.2006, 21:18

Dear Dave:

I'm still in. Am I correct in assuming that there will be no problem using your short shift kit with AB's replacement shifter cables? Please excuse me if I am asking an idiotic question.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Not an idiotic question Algirdas, you're amongst friends here!
ESM has one fitted and he has the AB cables - see his comments earlier in this thread. Anyway you have a moneyback warranty (less P&P costs) if not completely satisfied - see my offer earlier in the thread.

Dave's Shortshift

Postby algirdas » Wed 20.09.2006, 04:35

Dear Dave:

I'm sure I will be completed satisfied and even if I am not, I will not ask for my money back. I do not want for fellow LEC-ers to call me a "cheeky bugger" especially now that I know what that term means.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Dave's Shortshift

Postby algirdas » Wed 20.09.2006, 05:03

Dear Dave:

Slightly off topic, so I'll keep it brief so as not to have to pour yet another bottle of tequila down Sy's gullet. I saw your earlier posting about a crappy shifter on your +2 five speed. I am converting my baby Elan to a Lotus five speed and I am putting in a Quaife quickshift shifter (say that 10 times really fast). It looks like it would be an easier job of fitting it to a +2 than to a baby Elan. I bought it from Burton Power in Ilford (that's near London).

PM me for more details if you would like.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Algirdas, Which 5spd box are you fitting? I can't imagine Quaife made a quick shift for the few that had the Lotus one - with Maxi, yes that's Maxi as in Austin - internals

Dave's Shortshift

Postby algirdas » Wed 20.09.2006, 21:43

Dear Dave:

Its the one with the Maxi internals. It came out of a +2 Elan and I need to shorten the driveshaft (prop shaft) in order to make it work. As the story unfolds, Lotus used a Ford shifter in the Maxi-based gearbox and since Quaife already makes a quickshift shifter for the Ford gearbox, by logical extension it should work in the Lotus Maxi-based gearbox. I've put it in the gearbox and confirmed that it works. Be sure to put in a weaker spring for the 5th gear/reverse lockout though. I can send you some pics if you PM me your e-mail.

Sincerely,

First we had Dave then Neil (with Robie in there somewhere as well) and now AB all doing shortshifts - like John says, its like waiting for a bus....
