Paint colour

Postby Brian-Cate » Wed 09.08.2006, 22:37

Hi Can anyone answer a question please? We have just purchased our Elan S2 in Pearl White and were told that it was possibly a unique vehicle as the colour was only available on the Esprit. Is this so or was it readily available? Thanks in anticipation. Brian and Cate :D [/img]

Don't know about the colour, there are quite a few white Elans owned by the users of the forum, however as to the particular shade, I have no idea.

Gazza is currently maintaining a list of known S2s, perhaps in exchange for your details he'll have a look and see if there are any other known Pearl White S2s.

Welcome to LEC Brian and Cate. From your avatar it looks like a RH drive, so presumably it's not Newark, New Jersey?

As Ailwyn says, Gazza would love to hear from you as he has tracked down nearly 200 of the 800 S2's. Once you provide details, he will be only too willing to send you a copy of the database and you can see how many other Pearl White S2's there are ..... my lips are sealed!

never heard of pearl white in any Elan? Is it pearl white in the engine bay and in the door jams?? This would tell you if it was factory or perhaps a respray.

Lotus will do any color these days at the factory, but they didn't when the Elan was made.

Could be a rare find -- let us know.

You could find that contact at the factory and email to find out if it is original . . .

Pearl white

Doug,

Gazza has one Pearl White S2 on his database. I was trying to entice Brian and Cate into sending their details to Gary as I know that quite a few people haven't even bothered to reply to his PM's.

Ive seen a pearl white Elan, apparantly it was a one off made for Jonny Herbert, & it had a Jonny Herbert decal on the side, looked pretty genuine to me, although it had been in a ditch & had some front damage, enquired about buying it, but the bloke was going to rebuild it.

Thanks for everyones comments. Our Elan was owned by one lady although it was originally her company car which she then bought. The colour was factory specified according to the PDI and registration of sale in the owners handbook. We are replying to Gazza's request for info to update his data base. It was interesting to hear that there is at least another one some where out there !!! Thanks again - Brian and Cate

It looks like it's yours, sorry! I assume you added the S2 serial number to your signature after my last post (or I need new glasses  ). It's good to hear that you're supporting Gazza anyway and it looks like you've got a pretty unique Elan there. Hope you enjoy it.

SGT had one resently, but I guess yours could be one in the same..

Never seen one. Not a fan of plain white but pearl white Esprits look the biz. A lucky find. Enjoy :)

Except for into big bloody grass banks at brands hatch!

For my twopence worth . I believe Lotus did do some one off Elan colours as John Diffleys S2 is a fairly unique reddy / browney colour which I am told was bespoke to an Esprit/Elan couple which were bought by a father and son.
I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges.

B48 is Mauritius Metallic Blue (Water-based DuPont).

RatMan

If you send me your full VIN I will speak to Lotus and get the colour that your car was originally built with.
Unfortunately, they can't do it from the 1-800 numbers - seems a bit silly to individually number a car then not be able to identify it!

the vin number is: scc100zt1rhf26036

about the attachment, I damaged the vin tag during an engine cleaning.

Do you think that it's possible to ask Lotus for a new one?

maybe Sy or someone can give you the email for the Lotus contact. I doubt they would but it won't hurt to ask.

You have the VIN on stickers in 10 or so other places on the car so it's not like it's fake--but I'm sure it's just something that you "want to make right".

I have put the wheels in motion on the historical enquiry about your car.
I had to e-mail in the end, because the guy who deals with the archives is out of the office today.
