I didn't want to mention he-who-must-not-be-named for fear of being struck by a bolt of lightning sent by an angry admin 8)

Dave's Shortshift

Postby algirdas » Fri 22.09.2006, 14:44

Dear Dave:

If everything is okay here (elderly parents, failing health) and I can get away, I will be coming over to Stoneleigh in November. Can I get it from you then?

Is anybody planning on going to Stoneleigh this year?

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Uh-oh. Hope there's enough change in the couch cushions for this long awaited upgrade!
Many thanks Dave!

Elancentral was frozen - for me at least - last night so PM's later today.
Algirdas, November will be OK but I doubt I will go to Stoneleigh :( I'm sure we will be able to find someone over here who will be willing to get it to you tho'.

Heres what you will get if you go ahead with the purchase:

Now things are moving I thought I'd follow up the initial impressions post I put up just after Dave's kit was installed on my car.

I have had the kit installed for some months now and its superb. I can say this with feeling because I have one Elan with and one without it and so direct comparisons are easy to make (even when you don't want to). It has a positive feel, with none of the rubberiness of the stock item. The throw is much reduced and the extra weight just adds to the directness. I am looking forward to fitting this to my other car as well. The final product looks excellent too.

It gets 10/10 from me 8)

Just to clear up any possible misconception from my earlier post - the shift locked up on first installation because the kit had been installed on a shift unit obtained from a written off car. It was that unit that was the problem NOT Dave's kit.

Dave's Shortshift

Postby algirdas » Sat 23.09.2006, 15:39

Dear Dave:

Would you be so kind as to PM me how you would like for me to pay you? I would like to get you paid now just in case some last minute thing comes up and I have to cancel my trip.

Also, where are you located? I plan on driving around England collecting car parts from various suppliers and otherwise scaring the daylights out of pedestrians and local drivers with my American driving skills (you know, you guys drive on the wrong side of the road over there :D ).

Sincerely,

Algirdas

Algirdas, you have PM :)
All others have been shipped today, except two for local pick up
USA ones are by DHL - will get the bill tomorrow and then let you know the additional shipping costs. For USA I have marked them up as test parts with no commercial value - hope it helps avoid any tax etc - usually works for me :D

Also, for USA only, I have not included any install instructions which might make it obvious what it was. I will send a .pdf copy by e-mail - if you can let me know what it is - will promt you on the PM tomorrow if I don't already have it.

Dave, Algirdas,

I will be going to Stoneleigh so just drop me a PM if you need my address and I will happily take delivery and bring it with me.

Never mind - just realised you should have my address from the Rawlnuts order (unless I'm confusing the Daves?).

Already shipped them? And.. I haven't paid yet.

Thanks Dave, also for your concern about the item declaration. Like you know I can't wait another day to receive the package. :smt007

Dave,
Mine arrived very swiftly. I got it at the beginning of the week; sorry for the delay in acknowledgment.

It looks like a very nicely-made bit of quality kit, and your instructions look very comprehensive too. Thanks for doing this.

I'm not sure when I'll get this fitted as currently house alterations and work are taking priority, but I'll get it done over the winter. I'll be fitting AB cables along with the short-shift, which is what will take the time I'm sure.

Hope you are happy with it John.
Dropped off ESM's yesterday and had the opportunity to sample OE on his Blue one, my kit on his Red one and my kit on mine with the chopped lever. A long time since I sampled the OE shift 'quality ' so my memory of it was poor but boy was it vague. Celery stick or pudding stirrer come to mind.
Alan may be along soon with comments on my chopped knob  but the difference from stock was amazing (he says with a modest but cheesy grin :-D )
I have enough material left over for another 2 or 3 so this may be your last chance at this price. Not sure if I want to go through this much pain again  seeing as there are a few more buses on the way

I was very impressed with the shift in Dave's car (note the careful avoidance of double entendres). It clicks nicely into each gear with minimal throw and surprisingly little effort. I'm more than a little bit tempted to cut down the height of my own gear lever now...

Dave,

If you get round to making another batch, then I'd be interested (not sure how I missed this one  )
