Dear All:

Where is the source of the latest and greatest information for us to use about our cars? I saw Neil's postings about TAF-X. But when I consult the M-100 manuals, it says to use the lighter vicosity oil as in Mobil 1. Where is the source of the later, updated information so that in the future I do not go off half-cocked and come across like a massive mammary?

I know that I have read it before somewhere and one thing I remember Lotus saying is that the heaver weight will keep the gear noise down. Yes, I wish I could find that original article again

I'm just back to this :oops:

dump the GL-5, run Mobil 1 in the tranny for a while and then dump it and stick in GL-4.

Algirdas, did you mean I could use Mobil 1 - motor oil - for a while to flush the tranny. Run it like for a few month?

If there's a tranny fluid issue it is not from the fluid I had in there but rather what he already changed it for -- just clearing the air for others . . .

I thought you mentioned GL-5 is even better than GL-4

Dear Ekapol:

I looked at the workshop manual under section OE (Maintenance and Lubrication) and it lists there to use Mobil 1 5w/30 fully synthetic motor oil in the transmission and final drive. I'm talking about the workshop manual that is available on the LEC website.

Does anybody read that differently? The workshop manual appears to be from October, 1990. Does anyone have a more current version and are there different recommendations that can be documented?

When I had my Elan, I found MTL (Redline) to work very well. I live in the San Francisco Bay area where it about 70~80 duing the summer on average and about 60's during the winter. However, I didn't feel to much difference in shifting between the two seasons.

Also, the best place I found to order it is through Summit Racing.

MT-90 is some good stuff. Stripey's never shifted so smooth like that before. Better than what was really good, that's what I mean.

The old Redline oil I drained was still very clear.
