Haas anybody heard any further updates from lotus regarding the lack of supply of the A post seals?

Nick, i spoke to Gerald at GST Performance a week ago, as he's a stones throw from Hethel, & is on the case for me, & he hasn't heard a thing about them !, I'll be surprised if we see them this year, or even at all ?

just had this email from lotus

Ref your email to our technical dept regarding Elan seals please note the
following information :

B100V0117F Weatherseal A Pillar LH £122.23 + VAT
B100V0118F Weatherseal A Pillar RH £122.23 + VAT

We have been out of stock of these, the new stock are now being tested once
the test is complete & the seals have passed stock will be available foe
sale however I do not have a due date at the moment.

I spoke to lotus today just to see how the testing had on with the A post seals had gone as a large crack has now appeared in my windscreen. Not good news I'm affraid The latest set they had tested Failed, they are now going to start the process all over again and try and locate another supplier!

As there appears to be a supply problem, not to mention the cost, of A post seals!
I have contacts with a rubber component manufacturer, (no rude comments gents!!!!!) and I will make some tentative enquiries regarding producing some replica A post seals.
At this time I have no idea of the cost per pair, but I assume the unit cost will be dependant on the number produced.
I may have to ask for the loan of a new LH & RH A post seals to be used as a 'master' for the replicas, if anyone has a new, unfitted pair available.
It may take several weeks to give any more details, so interested parties should keep an eye on this thread.

I have been in touch with Lotus to find out if they own the dies to produce the A post seals.
Lotus do not own the dies, and to have a new set produced, Lotus have been quoted £250,000. :evil:

As a result of this, Lotus are sticking with their supplier who has the original dies.
The apparent problem with producing a new batch of seals was that the seals were too hard and the windows would not raise and fall correctly! :oops:

Unfortunatly, my idea of sourcing the seals from a local manufacturer has failed on cost due to having new dies produced.

Sorry if I raised false hopes, but it was worth a try.

The dies are held by Cooper Standard of Canada.

The wait for A post seals continues. I badly need a set for the N/A, although I'm reasonably proud of my efforts with windscreen sealant, black silicone goo and rubber paint it's not what you'd call aesthetically pleasing! The seals (particularly the drivers side) were bad before I had the screen replaced to pass the MoT and although Autoglass were careful (reasonably) the seals were further damaged during the screen replacement leaving me very little to stick back together on the drivers side.

Appreciate the effort, we all await Lotus producing the goods.

Hopefully when they do they might be slightly less perishable.

I was wondering about this, & thought it might be worth someone that can put it in the right way, writting to the new chairman, Mike Kimberley, & expressing the fact that why should we consider buying a new lotus, if they can't supply us with the parts to keep the cars on the road. As i understand it, the parts situation for the elise is not a lot better than our elan !. I'm not the man for this, but is there any volunteers ?
