LEC BBQ & Charity Gathering - 8/9th Sept '07

Postby Sy V » Mon 13.11.2006, 12:58

The various hints about a central venue for some sort of gathering haven't gone un-noticed.
So, I have a proposal to present:

Date: TBC later today when PM get's back to me with the dates that the PMSC Championship are blasting up Shelsley Walsh. I am aware that this date is bound to clash with something or be already booked in peoples' diaries for holiday etc. But you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Venue: Lydiate Ash (B61 0HT) - More specifically the entire front field (of which we used about a sixth last time). So we'll have about 4 acres at our disposal.

The catalyst for this was the Esprit boys yesterday who told me that they'd gathered 93 cars at Hethel in August and raised over £6K for charity.

Charity: The Alzheimer's Society (close to me, having lost my mom to this dreadful disease back in 1996).
Haven't given a thought yet as to what to do to raise money. We can talk about that later, in the ensuing months.

What I need now (before I decide on the date) are other event dates that you already know for next Summer i.e. Silverstone Grand prix, Le Mans etc.
Anything (pertinent) you can think of will help...I hope to decide on a date today.

Sy,
If you plan it outside of school hols that would be a help to many I guess. So probably June rather than July ???

Oulton Park Gold Cup 26th 27th August
another idea for your pot
I can get the group free tickets for the weekend.........
I had 50 free tickets last year and if you fancied it then I know I could get sort free tickets for the entire group especially if its a fund raiser......
one thing that would be really good here would be a BBQ....they only have the usual shite burger vans, as present at any motorsport event, and at £4 for some recycled meat and £2 for some warm pop!!!!
just wondered if it might interest more of the group??....
they do camping etc and you get racing all weekend....sunday/bh monday event.....
there are other local event which I dont think involve any of the group so I'll not list them.......
erm I'm in a band......well several actually but one of them is an umpha band.......we do live 'drinking' entertainment.......I could ask if the guys are free and if they were prepared to travel that far......
just another idea for your big ideas pot
cheers
gareth

Gareth

I'm sorry (don't take this the wrong way), but I don't understand the reason for your post here.
Are you suggesting I avoid these dates (if so, duly noted), or are you offering this as an alternative to the venue (my fields, that people have already asked me about and I wasn't offering as a discussion) that I've just proposed?

Yours sounds a magnificent do (it will be a good August filler) and it's looking more like the BBQ will be June, just waiting dates from PM.

There are 2 Shelsley dates for June, we 2nd/3rd and the 30th. I do not know which PM will be at.

Don't know what the towing weight on an Elan is do you?

What with 4 kids, 2 dogs and a spair pair of pants we'll need the caravan!

Nah....sod it, leave the kids at home to feed the dogs and fit the tent in the boot!

Depending on the date, we should be availlable.

P.S. - having been lumbered for cooking BBQs at Dolomite club meetings at Castle Combe I can get 45 burgers and 30 hotdogs done in 45 minutes start to finish!
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?
