Which Steering Oil

I wonder which steering oil help reduce the hiss the most on our car. What would you recommend? Does it need a top up from time to time on yours?

Use a Dextron III fluid when adding fluid. It doesn't help the hiss (I think it is just inherent in our system), but is the recommended type.

Yes, I do top off from time to time - but I know I've got a leak. It never leaked before I pulled the engine...
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

So.. we all have the hiss thing :)

Went to Broadwalk Lotus dealer in Redwood City, CA tonight, and picked up a quart of GM Steering Fluid 89020661 for 10 bucks or so.

The number is different than in our service manual that says:
Nippon oil: Besco ATF - Dexron A100H6088V - or -
GM Power Steering Fluid B100E6088V

They said Dave Bean bought all Elan parts when I asked about other parts :?

Snake oil?

Seriously, I think it is an inherent "feature" - I'm sure I'd read about it here before I went looking to buy and wasn't surprised when it did hiss.

I always assumed that the hiss was the power steering pressure switch closing. May be wrong though.
