Water inlet.

Dear guys,
I have my private swimming pool.
It’s blue outside with cream interiors!
I can’t really understand where is the water inlet because, when I open the door, everything is wetted from the today’s heavy rain.
I can see that there is a lot of water on the sill plates and there is only when the car is parked under the rain.
When I start running at the first corner there is a wave from the sill plate. After there are no inlets at all.

Any ideas? thanks and Merry Christmas!!!!!

The rain runs down the outside of the window and into the bottom of the door where it drains on to the sill. The amount of water that enters the cockpit depends upon whether your car is parked facing uphill or down.

The thing that is not clear to me, is that the door has water outlet for the window-door edge water inlet.
I made a schematic drawing and is clear that the water you said has to go outside the car passing through the holes made on the lower side of the door.
I saw that is really a dramatic situation only on the right door and the car is always parked on flat spaces.

It's probably your A-post seal or door seal.

I have the same problem A-posts are shot to Sh*t and there are a couple of guys on here who can attest to the swimming pool in my passenger footwell.

When the A-post seal is saturated the water runs down the inside of the door seal and accumulates on the sill.

The door seal keeps the water there until it overflows the lip designed into the sill.

Hoping to come up with a cheap and very nasty solution (i.e. drill a small hole in the sill to allow the water to drain under the sill and out past the door seal), I removed the plastic sill, and found that the lip is in the plastic sill only So where most cars have a welded join which causes a flat bit of metal to stick up, the sill (underneath the plastic) is flat.

As far as I can see the only plan of action is to fix the leak, as unless you re-engineer the sill in fibreglass or similar, there is no way to drain the water to the outside.

When i stripped pinky1, i removed the plastic sills and remeber someone had packed the inner edge up with 4 pieces of hard tube (ie like the flexi type fuel hose) which was obviusly to try and help the water run of the sill.

its a lotus trademarked feature, the exige does the same thing, only it holds the water in the door until you open it, then it pee's all over your feet.

i filled in some of my upper seals with flexible black sealant, helped a bit, not as much as moving to a place with only 4 inches of rain a year.

Mine also does this - not all the time - but it is scary when you first hit the brakes only to see a torrent of water rush over the sill onto your well placed towels
Lotus even knew about this and have a so called fix - see Section BK page 55 & 56 of your manual I'm not about to cut into sponge seals tho', although I think this particular seal is made with closed cell sponge.
I always park facing uphill as the sill seems to have a larger capacity for water this way and I'm now in the habit of opening both doors before driving off if it has been raining for any length of time.

I used to have a dish cloth on the sill, passing under the seal, allowing the water to drain away. I have now put some of Albert's sill covers in place, stuck on with Velcro . The water passes under the sill covers, the sill covers are under the the door seals and the car is dry. The velcro, however, doesn't like the damp and keeps coming off so I might have to glue it in place.

I tried a suggestion that I saw on this board which was to stick some strips of chamois leather to the bottom of the door seal to allow the water to siphon out. It kind of worked, but very soon the glue connecting the leather to the door seal came loose.

hm... my car is the official worst trimmed one in case of the softtop, but dry


Perhaps they have changed sth important? My car is a daily driver incl. autum and winter.

So changing pictures does make sense?
