Your first attempt at a Wiki page…

Postby RayD » Wed 20.02.2008, 17:23

Please feel free to add any further tips.

See Donington Tutorial

Here’s an opportunity to get some practice in.

* Go to

http://wikilec.9600.org/index.php/Main_Page

Or click the shortcut - WikiLEC - on the LEC front page.

Sign in or register to allow you to be able to edit the pages.

Click on the Practice Area page.

http://wikilec.9600.org/index.php/Practice_Area

Click edit - a new editable box will open - copy your text from Word and paste it into the box.

Click "Page Preview" to see how the finished article would look. Use the icons at the top of the box to make headings, underline, italics and so on.

You can click Page Preview to see if your changes have had the desired effect.

Before finally clicking "Save Page"

URL addresses and Links

In your finished article, in order to change the URL address, say http://lotuselancentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4818 to “See Here” or whatever

Put the cursor where you would like the “See Here” to appear and click on the globe icon above the edit box. This will produce the following…

[http://www.example.com link title]

Delete the words from inside the brackets and replace them with the URL and your new link title… in this manner

[http://lotuselancentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4818 See Here]

When you save the page or preview it the page the URL will automatically change to the link.

To Add Pictures

In edit mode, from the toolbox choose “upload file”

Click “Browse” and select your picture in the normal way from My Pictures – Click “Upload file” Your picture will join the other uploaded pictures in a WikiLEC library.

In order to get the picture onto the page put the cursor in the place you wish the picture to be, and type this…

Replace the word filename with the file name of your picture – it will be plucked from the library and miraculously land on your newly created page.

To produce a new page

To produce a new page on the Wiki, check if the subject’s been covered already. If it has, you may want to add your contribution to theirs.

Type your title in the search box – click enter – on a new page you will be told the page does not exist and be asked if you would like to create it – click “create this page”

The empty page pops up – click edit and you’re away – if you have tested the page in the Practice Area it may only want copying and pasting – just check the “Page Preview” before finally saving the page.
