Misfire after "Everest" chip install, at high RPM

Postby lwalling » Sat 08.10.2005, 23:44

I am doing all the other recommended upgrades, but a better plug with a tighter gap seems logical with the extra boost as well yes ?

I am going to pick up a set of NGK Iridium tipped BKR6EIX-11's now to install. They seem to cross reference to the stock plug recommended for the car.

Any other tips - I also posted a thread with more info under this thread

Thanks.

Also,

Does anyone know if the Accel 7967Y plugwires actually fit ? I see them online and likely available locally.

Any other "perfect fit" choices to recommend? The car has 8k miles on it and is in very very good condition but its still 14 years old and a misfire makes me want to start swapping likely suspects that need swapping anyway.

Still love to hear feedback on if the wires mentioned are an exact fit, or if someone has a better choice.

Installing the NGK BKR6EIX-11's in the car seems to have cured the misfire/stutter - the car pulls strong right on up to 100mph.

It is cooler outside now, though, so I will retest tomorrow and see if any issues reoccur.

The car is a screamer with just the ECM mod !

Matt is the plug wire bandito -- what is that one he swears by now? Kingsbourne me thinks . . .

Glad the plug change helped

you could try going one level 'colder' on the plug for the increased boost . . .

Iwalling,
I've only just seen this thread, and it sounds like you're sorted out, however I'll pass remark anyway.

On Michael's recent trip to Scotland he was complaining of a misfire at high revs. We sorted it by changing the plugs for a set of correctly-gapped (31 thou) new ones. The ones we took out were almost new, but his mechanic had not set the gap properly and they were at about 40 thou from memory.

The misfire disappeared forthwith.

NGK Iridium IX plugs "pre gapped" and it also states "Do not Gap" on the box, solved the problem.

I've driven it about 30 miles in total under pretty high load conditions and can't seem to reproduce the miss.

The damn car is MUCH faster, I can't wait to see what the rest of the stuff will do.

I highly recommend the Everest chip to anyone but would suggest you have a set of plugs onhand, I regapped the factory 8k mile units to .31 and still have a mild miss under load up hill.

Still looking for easy to find plug wires, would love some feedback (and even better, links where to get them) - I will probably grab the Accels if I don't hear anything negative.

Gotta replace the exhaust as well, if it's raining tomorrow.... I'll save that for another day unfortunately.
