Headlamp motor gears - where to buy?

Postby Houdini » Thu 15.06.2006, 20:32

My headlamp(s) need new gears. They're starting to really get on my nerves. Where can I buy these (preferably in the US)? Besides the gears I also seem to have a problem with the headlamps just poping up when they want. Sometimes one and sometimes both. This is a seperate problem I believe. Does this mean I need to change the box on the firewall or is there another fix?

hopefully, others will chime in -- but perhaps it is the box or just dodgy electrical connections for the flashing syndrome -- so plug and unplug the connectors at the box a few times, give it a whack, and see if it clears up

for the motor it should be the "bushings" unless you have found it to be the 'gears'? The bushings you can get from Rodnet Dickman's Fiero site (hopefully it is still there) and we found some other alternative sources before too.

A guy like yourself might just make his own, which could be an option -- the repair kit is just 3 flat, round poly bushes . . .

Got mine from AB motorsports http://www.abmotosport.com/Elan_products.html

The 3 black bushes are the replacements

Thanks Doug and Brian! I've just been lazy lately to try and figure it all out. But last night those blinkin' lights seemed to have a mind of there own. The right side needs "bushings" bad. The motor just keeps running and it can't make up it's mind to stay half open, all the way open, or closed. I'll order bushings (not gears) today.

If you don't already have one, you might want to consider getting Rodney's Lower Temp cooling switch (and pigtail)? Service is usually quick :D

If you need a gear, Mr Dickman has these too:
