Faulty Master Cylinder

Postby johnbenk » Sat 22.07.2006, 20:56

Hi

Has anyone experienced the following.

BRAKES HAVE BEEN BLED AFTER FITTING NEW STAINLESS HOSES.

The pedal travel is now WORSE but there is NO AIR IN THE SYSTEM.

Have Hi Specs on the Front. A brake specialist seems to think that BECAUSE the BRAKES have been PUMP BLED and the car is sixteen years old the piston and seals with bleeding have moved down the bore as previously they were OK. This UNUSED SECTION of the Master Cylinder gets gunged up over the years and the piston seals may now been worn internally although there is NO LEAK.

The BRAKES WORK OK and will LOCK THE WHEELS but the excess travel
is of some concern.

Any advice would be appreciated regarding the long brake pedal travel.

Has anyone renewed a Master Cylinder recently?

I have the wilwoods fitted. Car passed the MOT this week and the tester mentioned how long the pedal travel was. He sais it wasnt a problem as it passed the test.
I can lock them up real easy. Maybe its just how they are? :?

The pedal will shorten, with use, time and repeated bleeding.
Unless you've pump blead them without blocking the pedal, in which case you could well have knackered them.
