If I was looking to buy an elan now I would but one that only ever had 1 owner, a wealthy person who has had all the works and servicing done through areputable main lotus dealer...It is likely to cost more but i guarantee it will be cheaper in the long run..
also look for LEC members that have already spent ALOT of money an care on their elans...
this is all ofcourse unless you are looking for a project car but beware it can easily be a money pit

Judging by the work that was done by a so-called Lotus dealer on my J reg Elan (I've got the bills and the results of the bodged job to prove it) personally that's the last place I'd go.

sorry to hear that muley, you should complain to Lotus and have them removed as a main dealer

If I thought it would make a difference I would. Anyway I like a challenge - including fixing up other peoples 'handiwork'.
Much better to have work done on our old classics by people who know what they are doing - Steve Williams, Lakeside et al - main dealers are concentrating, quite rightly in my opinion, on current products not 20 year old machinery.

yeh i guess there arent many 1 owner elans left....maybe i was lucky with my dealer to still have an old elan production team member in it.... there's probably only 20 or so of them left around the country?
