Track rod end

Postby esprit888 » Sat 29.01.2011, 03:37

Just did an oil change and noticed the track rod end boot is split (as the wheel needs to come off to get at the oil filter) Is this a replaceable part or is it the entire track rod end that needs to be replaced? Anyone have a number or cross number?
Thanks

The TRE is a special - not sure about the boot. Here's some light reading.

Is this what you mean?
Cross-reference from Monty in 2006.

i.e. these on ebay.

If you can't get them in Canada, I could send some over.

Thanks John/Geoff, at first glance it looked smaller than the massey furguson upper ball joint boot and as i just happen to have a couple of spares i'll give it a shot (i was a little busy trying to catch all the oil from the filter change  )

Noticed my front ball joint and TRE boots were split and ordered a bag of these a while ago and whilest I had the wheels off to change brake pads /bleed brakes again!
thought it would be a good opportunity to fit them..... Well try to fit them..... :censored:

Please has anyone any tips on getting the lower retaining clip on?

I tried putting boot on first and installing clip over it and then installing clip on first and trying to rotate / stretch it over boot....
even tried sticking boot in clip and installing together ??? Am I missing the obvious? Boot does seem a tad too large on the lower end but it's probably down to a problem with the monkey holding the screwdrivers / pliers, etc....

I got fed up after an Hour and decided that it's 2/3rds of the way on and figured that it was better than the totally split boot that I removed
so left it like that untill I can get some advice from someone that has done it (better to ask a stupid question than struggle for hours :-D )

Good news is that even bedding in the Mintex pads on a short journey they feel "much" better than the old greenstuffs ever did..... Thanks for the advice bob
