Please bear in mind when talking about bosses/adapters etc - the FED cars use a different spline on the steering column to the UK cars (due to the column being compliant with airbags and stuff in USA)
The FED column will take an Esprit wheel directly, but the UK one doesn't as the top splines are different between the 2.......
...... it may make a difference when you try to get an 'off the shelf' adapter/boss -make sure it fits your column!

steering wheel in by
Michael Baldwin, on Flickr
Im a bit chuffed with this. Worth the aggro.
I like the old wheel but it needs a good clean as it was getting sticky and I love the look of the new with the red of the car.
Thanks for all the help, I wasn't aware you get all these bits.

Well done, it looks good. I found the original wheel to be just too big. As you say, it's worth all the agro in the end.

Hi all,
Further to this, it appears that I haven't re-aligned the wheel as it was, because the self cancel on the indicators is not working correctly. It's probably just one side, but so far I've just noticed it isn't working, blasting along with the roof down I notice several miles from the turn I'm still indicating.
I don't really understand how it all works any ideas what I do?
Thanks
Mike

So, further to this.
The car is now out on the road after the winter lay-up and I have got the seat in the correct position and we have some issues with this wheel.
Firstly, I cant see the speedo and the dash in general, its obscured by the wheel. This is a bit of an issue if you try to stay within the speed limits and also means Im getting speed updates from the passenger seat which I cant hear anyway with the lid off over the wind roar.
Secondly, the smaller the wheel the harder you have to work and it may be a bit heavy for the mrs if she needs to manoeuvre at low speeds.
So I may have to refit the original. Any ideas about how you clean it up easily? It had got a bit sticky.

You do realise the steering column is adjustable up/down I trust? Personally, I seldom look at my speedo' as I use a GPS Head Up Display that projects speed onto the windscreen. Removes the need to take your eyes off the road - I commuted round the M25 from M11 junction to M40 junction for 18 months, Variable Speed Limits and frequent panic braking ahead was much easier to deal with. They are only about £25, drawbacks are they're subject to slight delay when changing speed significantly and lose GPS signal in tunnels but are more accurate than most speedos when indicating constant speed.

Thanks Phil, I might give the HUD a go.
I am aware that the wheel is adjustable, if it’s where I want it, it obscures the wheel. I will concede that I might be able to see more if I compromise where I put it.
