Plastic rim 'standard' wheel on the NA
Leather rim 'standard' on the SE & S2
Airbag wheel (GM parts-bin special) for the Fed
Nardi - 'optional' on the S2
Although I think it would be fair to say that most S2's went for the option, not all of them did..... as such, a 'standard' S2 is the same as an SE....... and I've never dismantled a Nardi so can't help if it's one of those!!!
just to add a bit more confusion, my NA has a leader rim. i never put it side by side to the SE, but from recollection its exactly the same as the SE... apart from the fact the leather was treated a few times over the years and feels much nicer to handle

I should have mentioned that the leather rim was an 'option' on the NA, like the Nardi was on the S2!

Thanks J... knew there was a simple method and that worked easy peasy.. thanks a lot. All I have to do now is troubleshoot the classic "horn-only-works-when-the-wheel-is-turned-from-the-centre-(left or right)-by-about-40-degrees" syndrome; I know this is a problem that others have had...any views on how it is fixed? cheers M

As I recall (and I’m an old bloke, so take this with a pinch of salt), there’s a spring-loaded pin at the top of the steering column which forms the contact for the horn circuit. On the back of the wheel is a circular flat metal ring, which the pin contacts as the steering wheel turns. Pressing the horn button completes the circuit and sounds the horn.
If yours is not working for part of the time, I’d suspect a bent ring, or a sticking pin.
