Noisy power steering

Postby Capman » Wed 07.06.2006, 22:09

Hi guys, Just purchased the car and can't help but feel that the power steering shouldn't make the 'hissing' noise it does as i turn the wheel. it appears to be coming from the steering column.

Any Ideas?

Hissing from the power steering is pretty normal for an Elan. IF the fluid is topped up and the weight of the steering feels fine, I don't think it you should worry

In fact if they don't make a hissing noise on full lock there's probably something up with your power steering!

Fyi, I recall reading a post on another forum here on LEC from someone who worked on his steering, topped up and bled the power steering fluid, and discovered that the hiss had gone.

Look for the keyword "snakes" in the subject line, as I recall.

Dave

PS: Yes, my steering hisses too and No I haven't done anything about it. It's 'way down the list.
