Has anyone come across this before...Using MS Office 2008 in Excel, a complex spread sheet updated on a monthly basis since 1994, on saving, has lost all its formulas and kept the numbers correct?

To put it another way... the sheet is correct at the last time it was saved but adding a figure in any column now doesn’t affect the total... the “total” is now a number rather than a formula.

Sounds like it's been corrupted.
How many people have access to it?
Have you recently changed OS per chance?
Is the system backed up - can you use last week's version?

There's only myself uses it.
Still on Windows Xp Pro
It is backed up on the second hard drive but after the damage was done.
It's not a big problem, I only need to redo all the formulas, I was just wanting to avoid it happenng again.

Some of the guys (who think they're gurus) at work were theorising that it's because it had macros disabled and then changes were saved.
Sounds like Software Engineer bollock-speak to me though... even Bill Gates wouldn't market something as crass as that.

Is it possible you did a PasteSpecial-Values instead of PasteSpecial-Formulas or PasteSpecial-Formats?

No I don't do anything different or special...apart from, changing the format from 2003 to the 2007 version at which point you get a warning up about formulas, but I've done that dozens of times without any problem.

Not used PasteSpecial-Values, PasteSpecial-Formulas or PasteSpecial-Format knowingly.

- that was my thought too. Can also happen if you right click after a copy then hit the "S" key followed by the "V" key

I’ve just tried that out of interest, it works as you say but I was seeing it for the first time.

It also looks as if you do it on a global scale it changes all the numbers in the columns as well, where all my detail remained correct, but in number form.
