My father recently sent me these images from when he was involved in testing the engine cooling and AC system of the Elan at the General Motors Desert Prooving Ground in the USA. Of coures, he was told he wasn't allowed to take any photos of the car, but as 20+ years have passed, it should be OK to post them :-D .

I hope the group find these interesting!

Glad to have chatted to you and your lady at The Factory on Saturday and again on Sunday.

Good luck with the aircon and your "trip", and best of all thanks for getting in the way of the loser in the GT Cup Porsche

The tow hitch was installed in order to add a load cell (basically a trailer with a brake increase the load on the engine) and yes, it does have a roll hoop added (although it doesn't show up to well in the pictures I have at the moment). I've asked my dad to scan all the photos he has at a high resolution and send them over to me on a CD (he's in Australia). He says he has a clear shot showing the roll hoop and that it seemed very neat, although the roll bar on the blue elan at Snetterton would be very hard to beat! I'll post some more historical images in a few weeks when the post arrives.

Dave, it's always a pleasure to block a Porche (I'm not a great fan of that brand) :smt023

Save the best ones from general view please mate! If you send those to DaveT, as I mentioned on Saturday they could well end up in the 2010 calendar.
