Which oil is the preferred type for the Elan se & correct gearbox oil?
Maybe I'm going nuts but I thought he was asking for both gearbox and engine oil recommendations and FWIW Joe S isn't the only one with some involvement in the lubricants field

I think it just proves the point when you have the same car with different recommended oil grades from the manufacturer! Certainly oil technology has advanced since the late 1980s though. I just have talked to Joe in the past about oil so brought it up -- now you're going to tell me your Northern brethren are experts in oil
or something like that
