And as a good paint job might cost 3k these days might have trouble at that price unless you own a paint shop.

You can wrap a car for less than half of that and the example I've seen still looks god 3+ years on

Non standard wheels and seats. But the "breaks" are good

i saw it... was tempted. but no funds at the moment for it.
i do have plans to setup myself something in the near future that could be used to paint it at a fraction of the respray costs (because i need it for my current car as most of you are aware)... but then again.. i cant drive 3 elans at the same time..

i agreee its not feasible unless you live next door to your mate and you know him for years and have built some trust over the years.. a rare scenario as far a im aware

I think maybe Muley and myself might have tried it on the red N/A but I live at one end of the country and he lives at the other so totally impractical.

In fact, its worse than that, as I live in another country ie Scotland and Jim spends a lot of his time at the other end of the world in the land of the long white cloud

if you lived near me, i would be happy to try something like that. but still a minefield. i can think of some approaches to make it more feasible but those would effectively require a good understanding and agreement of each party's position.

personally i dont know enough to do it for a profit without upsetting some LEC members who would be asked for help with some of the work... i dont think it would be fair to ask for help in order to make a profit of the help received without giving something back... you get the picture.

I dont feel bad about asking for help t fix my car, but thats because im not planning on selling it for profit.
i imagine some (hopefully most) LEC members would be OK with the idea if this was effectively recovering a car that was likely to be scrapped. but theres reasons to make the oposite assumption as well...

If I wasn’t playing big boy monopoly ( Whitechapel/ old Kent road) I would have snapped up a few this year. Though buying a rolling project like that could /would need a lot of work. As much as it looks a good buy if the numbers didn’t add up I would have no problem with breaking it either. It’s ok for people to have opinions joal but they are not the ones actually doing it. Do as you see fit. Breaking cars helps keep our better ones on the road.

Once my garage/workshop is done, and I have a bit of space, I *may* be persueded to look sensibly at buying something as a 'bit of a bargain'.....

.... but one mans bargain is another mans money pit - and so on.

A bargain has less to do with actual cost than what you are able to do with the car - I love to see them restored - but accept that some are beyond that (in todays economic market).... so become breakers.... unless you intend to store them to prevent such a fate until the market changes (1 year? 10 years? 20 years?).

I can see little to entice me into a 'shared ownership' situation, unless a car is for sale somewhere that I can't get to easily - for example, if one came up in some parts of the USA I may consider throwing a bit of cash at it to allow me to avoid renting a car on an American road trip??????

Other than that, maybe if it needs particular attention which I can't do (or don't have easy access to the parts for), AND the car is of particular personal interest - maybe.

But, it seems far easier to just buy one myself and avoid all the potential hassle of shared ownership (shared liability is far more likely!!!!!) - or leave it for someone else.
