91 ( H ) SE 59K Miles (SOLD)

Had my Elan for 3 years and covered barely 800 miles - it just sits under cover in the garage . It needs to go to someone who will use it as it should be used.

Full documented history including service records, old mot's etc
Quality radio/CD
Cambelt/power steering/alternator belts changed last summer
Wishbones absolutely fine
Windows seals etc good
Excellent black hood ( unfaded )
original handbook/toolkit/first aid box still in the car

Last owner had it for some ten years ( under SORN for 5 years in heated garage - probably has never seen rain in its life! )

I've added some photos but they don't really do the car justice - it looks virtually new.

Currently under SORN but I will MOT and tax for 6 months

I live on Isle of Wight but will meet anyone interested off the ferry to view.

Price £6250 - not cheap but if you're looking for a genuine first class car you won't be disappointed

Been advertised on here and Pistonheads for a couple of weeks with no enquiries - pretty disappointing - I suppose any car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay and may be our cars are overpriced - many of the cars on Pistonheads are substantially more than mine and I would be surprised if they looked as good in the "flesh" so to speak and have such comprehensive documented history. To be fair most of them are in garages who can offer part exchange and warranties - the ones that do sell seem to be at the bottom end of the market but from my experience people who buy these spend big money to get them up to spec. Being on the IOW doesn't help either with the problems of getting over here. I'm not desperate to sell so I'll try the local rag and see if that drums up some interest. The only reason I'm selling is that I just don't use it - I have two other daily drivers and the Elan is too good to leave outside in the elements - it looks virtually like new and would deteriorate if I did this. My aim if I can sell is to get a special car that can withstand everyday use as a second car and just have two cars - not everyone's choice but I do like the look and power of a 350Z.
Another option may be to approach classic car garages that might be prepared to sell on a commision basis - always worth a try - what do you think?

Hi Tony,
I have had exactly the same problem selling mine, and I have reduced the price to try and sell it to an LEC member,
if that doesn't work then it will go on Pistonheads.
As for your replacement, try a Mercedes SL500 or better still an SL55. sports car performance, metal convertible roof and COMFORT.

I think it depends on how quickly you want a change of car. I suspect that the market for elans is relatively small, i.e. small number of both buyers and sellers, consequently any car will take a little while to sell unless it is priced aggressively. I imagine that a classic car dealer is going to want at least £1000
commission to sell a car (probably more), so I don't think you will realise a quicker sale / higher price to you. If you want to realise the maximum cash for yourself I think you need to stick with a private sale but be prepared that the car may take a few months to move on.

I have been monitoring sales over the last few months and there have been a couple of Red SE's with similar mileage to yours that have been advertised for a shade under £6000 that have both sold within a couple months (including one in Manchester that was advertised on LEC).

Good luck with the sale - car looks nice.

NOW SOLD - quite ironic really - several people responded to my local advert and the first person to view it bought it !! Because of the condition I guessed if I could get someone to see it then they would want it. I will suggest he joins the LEC and whilst I feel a bit sick that its going I know I'm doing the right thing - Many thanks for all your help in the past.
