Top Gear Tested Elan for AUCTION ENDED (Brightwells,)

Postby vivcan » Sun 13.01.2019, 20:53

Red Elan SE for sale in Shrewsbury area. £5750 or very near offer.

1989 reg and was originally a Lotus Press car. It can be seen on YouTube under ‘Lotus Elan test From 1990’ and was put on YouTube on 28th April 2014

I have owned this for ove 11 years. It has 78,000 on the clock and has an MOT until September 2019. It comes complete with top quality outdoor fitted cover and auto pyjama indoor storage cover.

Recently fitted are: stainless steel exhaust, GAZ shock absorbers all round, front disc and callipers and new cam angle and road speed sensors.

Bodywork and paint need attention as it has some blistering. Large history file and workshop manual, with magazine articles from that era.

Sale due to loss of garage storage so it is now outside.

It might help your sale with some links to YouTube and also some good quality photos

From an historic point of view though it sounds interesting so send some details to Dave Speck for his historic register

I watched that episode of Top Gear back in 1990!

"Water leaked into the footwell of the car overnight, Lotus say this will be sorted on production cars." Ho, ho, ho.

Best of luck with the sale.

Very interesting. Yes I’ve watched that review more times than Starwars. So I presume this is another IB ?

Brightwells is actually in Leominster. Bottom of Mill Street on the A49 by the big roundabout.

My old stamping ground and I still go back a lot

When you go you may see LEC sheriff driving an ambulance fast on the A49

I love the advert...

" There was even a rumour that it was reliable."

"This Elan SE is a pre-production car, chassis number 13, that survived being road-tested on Top Gear and by a variety of cack-handed clowns masquerading as motoring journalists (is this too hard on that much-maligned breed?)."
