According to AutoCar magazine edition 22, June 1994 - Sir John Major MP (at that time the Prime Minister of the UK) fitted the limited edition number #001 during a visit to Hethel.
As the owner of 001 - I've long been interested in this, I wrote to Lotus many years ago to try and verify this story, but strangely they had no recollections of the Prime Minister's visit (in itself rather strange! Yep, the PM comes to visit, but nobody keeps a record???). However, I've just found this image on LinkedIn of Sir John sat in an Elan....perhaps the most promising lead in years, except the seat colour is wrong...cream leather. I expect this is #007 which is the media car actually pictured on the front cover and inside AutoCar #22.
Of course, if anyone here has any better recollections, I'm sure our community would love to hear them!

Interesting, don't know anything about the visit but always thought Tommy Vance was working for the BBC at that time (guy with his hand on the passenger door). Feargal Sharkey a few rows behind him as well.

Rodney and Del Boy in the front right there, And that's not Adolf with his head on the green shrub far left directly above Mark Labbett is it?
